I love visiting different state parks and this one was no disappointment. I didnt get to spend much time and it was raining but the lake was beautiful and the little hiking I got to do was so enjoyable. Cant wait to visit again.

We stayed at the nearby Hampton Inn (excellent hotel and beautiful location) for one overnight, but this is our third time here. The park is very nice, at least the parts we walked and drove through. You can walk a half mile or a two and a half mile walk around the lake, and it is safe, clean and well taken care of. If you like being in the mountains, well foothills anyway, this is the classic "nestled in the valley" feeling. An on site restaurant, a BBQ restaurant with great food is right there.Thursdays nights are best because thats when the country band is playing. Lot of fun.

Generally the grounds are well kept. The lake was a real disappointment. I don't know if they were having a drought have read others on here remark about the same thing. It was a stagnant unattractive mess when we were there. (Nothing like the picture)They have an $8.00 per boat launch fee. There is a slide device to use to get your boat into the water. You better have some strength to haul it back out of the water and up that hill. We were told we could go to nearby Norris lake and launch for free. The pool was closed. The bathrooms at the day use area had a sign "Closed for the season".
For whatever reason they don't give a senior discount to out of state folks. We had just come from another Tennessee park that did. We had to clean up our campsite when we moved in.Many of the campsites are very close together. There are some really nice large old juniper trees in the camping area. The bath house in our loop was functional, seemed clean but the shower area had a common changing area and nothing in the shower to put your items on when showering, We used another bath house that did have these items. It was nicer but the drain of the shower I used would not drain.
They do have tennis courts and there is a restaurant in the park that features barbecue. If you were having a reunion or some kind of group event this might be the place for you but It just isn't much on the natural side. You can hear trains, and some kind of factory and road noise from the camp ground. Just not what we think of camping.

This campground has lots of trees and sites are not crowded. There are walking trails that are paved so bike riding is also possible. There isn’t a store on site but several within a couple of miles. Some sites are against the water.

Very clean and nice park with most sites having ample distance between them. Just a few miles off the interstate with easy access in and out. We saw 40' motor homes in the park without a problem. Bathrooms were clean (but dated) but were very adequate for our needs. The park ranger drove around every hour sometimes more often making it very safe. The park staff was very helpful supplying a ladder within minutes of asking. Nice walking/biking trails close to the park, with a pool close also. The only negative was the concrete tables were on the wrong side of the camper on many sites (not a problem if you bring a table). Also, we stayed in site #67 the map shows it next to the water with the adjacent sites further away. In reality the three sites are MUCH closer together and when one steps out of the camper the corner leading out of the park (one way) is very close- because it is in a lower part of the park water has washed away the ground/cement causing a drop off. Some trailers came close to bottoming out (swing WIDE around this corner). Site #67 should be eliminated as it is too close to the turn; however there is adequate space on the other side (wrong) of the trailer. Overall, we are planning another trip back but will be camped in another site.

Nice place for a stopover to get a little walk to break up a long trip. Just a few miles off the Caryville exit on I-75. Pretty little lake with a short walking trail. Not a very busy exit but gas and food nearby.

We arrived late and were registered in minutes. The Officer kindly suggested a site closer to the facilities that were open for the season, which was very accomodating.

After setting up, in the dark we walked the paved 3.5 mile loop. The moonlight was enough to see for safety. Comming out of the woods, the same Officer was on patrol, and we chatted and laughed with him at some of his Park Ranger stories.

The next day, we had trouble starting our RV. The same Officer (do they let this guy sleep?) came to our rescue with jumper cables and encouragement. Stood with is in a steady drizzle until the RV decided to turn over. Such a nice man.

The park was well maintained, the restrooms/showers wereclean and warm, and the staff is simply marvelous.
