Wow! Chattanooga has got some cool stuff for a little town! We did the Aquarium the day before but the weather was so bad we had to scrap the Lookout Mountain plan and come here instead. We were a large group of 7 adults and 8 kids so this place was perfect. Love the concept! There's a fantastic water science feature right when you go in. Kids will love it! If you manage to ever get past this area the place just keeps going and going. There's Art, Music, Dino Dig, Soil & Minerals, Pretend Play: Cooking, Doctor, etc. Upstairs there's a Wizard of Oz theme, Reading & Books, Bee Keeping, and and outside rooftop garden with more science theme playthings. However, the youngest child in our group was 20 mos and oldest was 11. For the 11 yr old, this place was not really geared for him anymore. I would say the suitable age range for this place would be for 4 through 8 or 9 yr olds. I have a 9.5 yr old and she was starting to get bored of the place after not too long. The 4-6 yr olds can probably stay all day and be able to find something that would interest them. There is a cafe at the front we didn't actually go to, but the menu looks extensive enough to suit most kids & adults. Very cool place to take your little ones.

My son is 5 and very curious, so this museum fit him well. The dinosaur dig was his favorite. He also enjoyed the different music instruments.

“A must for families”

While the aquarium is the headliner in downtown Chattanooga, the Creative Discovery Museum offers far more engaging learning opportunities. At half the price of aquarium admission, museum admission offers children (OK, and adults!) myriad opportunities to learn through play. It was the most fun we had all weekend, and I wish we had devoted more time in our schedule to this visit.

Can't way enough about this museum! So many activities for children (parents will have fun too). A really nice place and wonderful staff. If you are in Chattanooga, don't miss this one.

“Needs Help but still a Favorite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

We have been visiting the CDM since our teenager was just a tiny girl and while it is definitely showing it's age it is still one of our favorite things to do in Chattanooga. The true test for us is how much we adults enjoy it. There are many exhibits that both kids and adults will enjoy. There are giant bubble makers outside that usuallly have a line in the summer. When you first enter, the water play and climbing areas are your first experience. I am 42 and love climbing the highest point and then playing with the simulated locks and dams. I highly recommend using the provided rain gear as you will get wet. As adults, we especially love the motion art where you get to watch hands turn into birds...it's dark and cool but not for anyone who has to worry about seizures since there is strobe lighting. The interactive music exhibit is great as is the dinosaur dig. There is usually some kind of art class going on and we have taken home our own art several times including batik animal prints. They used to be downstairs but are now in a large studio upstairs. Be sure to check out the rooftop and all the outside contraptions. Now the bad...as much as it costs to get in, they need to maintain this attraction better. Even something as simple as the facepainting area needs help with more supplies. Some of the carpet is fraying and some of the exhibits are not all working. Even the bubbles outside seem to need refilling the last couple of times we were there. But even with these issues, the CDM is still a great place to visit, especially with kids ages around 3 to 10...or of any age! The gift shop is great. You can buy combo tickets at the visitors center to save on the major attractions.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that the Museum is a favorite of your family’s, but are sorry that you were disappointed with some of the exhibits. The summer is one of the busiest times of year at the Museum. We often have large numbers of guests in attendance each day and an exhibit that is working one minute can be broken the next. However, the Museum has full time exhibit maintenance staff on duty during our public business hours to ensure that all of our exhibits are well supplied and in working order.

We are committed to providing the best experience for our guests. It is very helpful if visitors can let us know if any problems exist while they are visiting Creative Discovery Museum so that they can be fixed as soon as possible. We also strive to keep the facility well maintained. Last year, we replaced our outdoor roof, upgraded our HVAC system and installed a variety of new exhibits throughout the Museum. We are looking at other improvements in the years ahead as well.

Again, we apologize that you were not completely satisfied with your visit and hope that your next trip will be an even more enjoyable one.

Thank you.
