I parked next to what ended up being Cravens House on my way to walk around look out mountain. While I did not go inside, it has a lot of monuments, stones, and great history around it.

We did not check to see if it was open but still got to see and experience a great piece of history. So much of what you can see and learn here is not in the history books any more.

Nice monuments and historical information around the house. The view from the porch of the house is breathtaking if you can forget about the power lines in the line of vision; you would think they could have found another way considering the historical significance of the location?. As a previous reviewer stated, there is free parking and a couple different hiking trailheads here. NOTE Sunset Rock via Cravens House / Bluff trail is closed due to a landslide (or so the posting said). We went the long (and tougher) way to Sunset Rock via Rifle Pits / Upper Truck / Gum Spring trails.

The house was not open for viewing while we were there - not sure if it ever is. The grounds were beautiful. Amazing views of the city from the mountain.

This is an interesting part of the Civil War to learn about. The house sits high on the mountain and has a great view. There are two cannons on the property as well as many walking trails. The ONLY downside is that there are no restrooms nearby (you have to go back down to Ruby Falls.) We enjoyed being able see the city view, learn the battle of lookout mountain and hike for free. One of the very few free things to do in Chattanooga.
