What a ripoff. Yes, the ride went up....a 3yr old's screaming tantrum ruined any scenic enjoyment. There was a view at the top. To our surprise there is a whole neighborhood of beautiful historic homes - to which you can DRIVE - as well as the Civil War park with breathtaking views. Train is to run every 8-10 min.....after our enjoyable time at the top we waited 40 min looking at the immobile car while waiting in a caged area to return down.
Website adversities 1/2 off for seniors.....ticket window says ' nope, not today' ..... and inaddition to the high fee, this attraction charges $2 for parking. Cheeky.
Skip it! Drive to the top of Lookout Mt and enjoy the views and the history.

What a great time while facing my fears. This was an easy attraction to visit and the view is breathtaking. Everyone should do this while in Chattanooga, TN

“A bit disappointed”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

We bought into the hype and went on the incline railway. The view was so-so and the ride was mediocre at best, in fact you really couldn't see much of anything while on the train itself. Once the novelty had wore off, we felt like suckers. Of the 3 items we did on lookout mountain (ruby falls, rock city, and incline) we could have done without the incline ride. The good news...was that we didn't get suckered into similar rides while in Gatlinburg. Were we glad we went? Yes. Would we do it again? Only if it were free and we were bored.

“Sensational Ride”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

It may not look like much from across the parking area and ticket office, but it will surprise you. Some others may say they did not like it, other talk about the great view.It does have great views of the Mountain and City from high up on the mountain side. The ride does not take that long to ride up or down. They do give you quite a history on how it was built and how it has been used over the years, which is very interesting. The most thrilling part for me was that although you are sitting straight upright in the chair like you do anywhere,(your car,a chair in your living room, etc.) once you start to ride (down from the top of the mountain) it feels like you are falling forward out of your seat but you aren't. It like an illusion ride at Disney. I think it really feels a little scary, weird and fun all at the same time.I found myself trying to hold on to my seat and the train operator and a few other guests, giggled and said I didn't really have to hold like that. The urge to do that though,is kind of compelling. So (laugh out loud) that is part of the fun.It is worth a visit.Simple pleasures are the best.

“Best done at sunset”
Reviewed 25 October 2013 via mobile

A local told us it is best to do at sunset. I personally didn't love it. But it's an alright deal if you buy the combo tickets for ruby falls, etc.
