Upon arrival, we registered at the English Tudor-style house and we were greeted by a lovely inkeeper who brought us to the Thompson House and showed us to the Maclellan room. It was nicely decorated, a bit small, and fairly clean. We wanted to explore the beautiful Bluff View Art District so we situated our luggage and used the bathroom, when we noted a standard toilet seat resting atop an elongated toilet bowl. Needless to say, the seat was a bit awkward to say the least. Not to mention that every plumbing supply house and 'Home Depot' readily stock elongated toilet seats, so NO excuse. Okay, at this point we shrugged our shoulders and chuckled and left the room for our walking adventure. We enjoyed a tasty meal at Tony's followed by delectable desserts and coffee at Rembrandt's and then returned to the room. At this point it was approximately 10:15pm and we were exhausted. The mattress was the most uncomfortable piece of bedding that we've ever experienced before lending to our profoundly unrestful, uncomfortable night's sleep. We weren't surprised with our sore backs, hips, and stiff necks upon awakening from the night of tossing and turning. Truly, if it were earlier in the evening when we retired and we thoroughly inspected the room, we would have requested a different room with acceptable bedding. It is disappointing that this was our experience. We would never have guessed that such a beautiful B & B in the most quaint section of the entire city would have been the worst ending to a wonderful weekend away in Chattannooga. We are also business owners and we really do understand the financial challenges during our current financial climate, though, it is imperative to not only meet the expectations of the patron, but to EXCEED them. In our experience, we feel that the crucial aspects of comforatability were not present here at this establishment. We are confident that if the owners of this establishment were to 'try out' the bedding or had to sleep on it for more than an hour, they surely would not have purchased this bedding. Additionally and important to mention is that the bedding linens were quite old and shabby with rips and freys along with the number '313' written largely on the flat sheet in a black permanent marker. Also, the sink has a very sluggish drain. On a brighter note, the Sunday morning breakfast buffet was nothing short of simply delicious. We are sorry to say that we wouldn't have expected such poor accomodations in this lovely little section of the city.

Room Tip: Test the bedding first.

We go to Chattanooga as a weekend getaway from time to time. Now that we've found the arts district and the Bluff View Inn, I doubt we'll stay anywhere else. Or, maybe we'll visit and never go anywhere else in the city because who needs to? On the block is a bakery; a moderately priced Italian restaurant (hand-made pasta!); an upscale restaurant (with a lovely bar); a coffee shop that serves pastries, sandwiches, breakfast, and freshly roasted coffee; a chocolate maker, an art and craft gallery; and most impressive of all - a sculpture garden that features outdoor sculpture by some of the most famous scuptors in the world; and, of course, the "inn".

The four of us stayed in the Thompson house. We had the Hunter and Maclellan rooms. The Hunter, with its bay window, is a little more expensive, though frankly the Maclellan is the better room. This is because the Hunter is along the driveway and near the dumpsters and only the bottom portion of the bay window is covered with blinds - no curtains. The street lights keep the room from being dark at night. The Maclellan (and the Chambliss) are on the courtyard side of the house.

The double bed was super comfy. It was a cold night (30 degrees) but we were very comfortable. The staff is lovely - friendly and helpful. For breakfast, we were given vouchers for breakfast at the coffee house, which is right next door. With the voucher you could choose from a list of hot and cold breakfast items, including french toast, egg and breakfast meat biscuits, pastries, fruit and two drinks (a hot and a cold, such as a juice and a hot chocolate). It was yummy, though the shop was crowded and tables were at a premium.

Room Tip: In the Thompson house, rooms on the north side are darker and quieter.

This is a wonderful weekend getaway that we will go back to over and over! Great experience. Chattanooga has done its homework to clean up the inner city and attract visitors! Everything was perfect... the inn, the food, the atmosphere!

The Bluff View Inn isn't opulent but it defines inner-city Chattanooga, well turned out and surprisingly sophisticated. The ladies of the staff are as efficient as they are charming, they know their town and they are endlessly cooperative. The rooms are comfortable, if just a little frayed around the edges, but it is hard, probably impossible, to beat the location - if you get a room over the lake. We weren't in Chattanooga to see the sites but realised quickly there is a good bit to see and BVI makes a great base. We were only there for three nights but would have happily stayed for a couple more.

Room Tip: lake view essential

you can trust this review.... this B&B is perfect.
First of all the area is just not to be missed. You'll feel like you're in a small little village in
France.
The House they put me in was the THOMPSON HOUSE. I Had the Hunter room.
It was small but it was just lovely. And the morning breakfast was amazing.
I'm still dreaming of it ;-)
Book this my friend. You won't be sorry.

Wonderful getaway place, great alternative to big box hotels, worth the additional price. Very attentive staff, good accommodations. Very quiet and restful location, great scenery. A wonderful way to see Chattanooga.

Room Tip: Recommend the Maclellan House

This was a wonderful getaway for my husband and I. We stayed in the "The Bryan Room". It is just as the pictures show. Very neat and clean with thoughtful details (such as a nightlight in the bathroom and a flashlight in the drawer next to the bed). The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. There is a beautiful view of the river from the room. The room was very quiet - we did not hear other guests. The breakfast on Sunday morning was wonderful. Lots of delicious food and a nice variety - and more than enough (hot and cold options). There is so much to see and do in the area - all within walking distance. The aquarium is only about 1/2 mile very easy walk. There's beautiful art along the way, a glass bridge (that is beautiful day and night). We will definitely do this again.
