“Great food, decent service”
Reviewed 18 June 2014 via mobile

A great Mexican restaurant with great food, a bar, a small outside patio, 2 Tvs, and decent service. The only reason I say decent service is because they get busy and sometimes are under staffed. Great prices as well and try the passion fruit margarita!!!

“Best Mexican In Town”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

El Magueyal has become a family favorite since it opened on 10th St. about 3 months ago. It is unique for Cookeville for several reasons only one of which is it's location on the Algood side of Cookeville offering $3.50 margarita and all drafts for $1.60 after 3:00 pm, which includes the locally brewed Calfkiller brand. Its décor is traditional Mexican with lovely hand painted murals. The wait staff is professional, welcoming and willing to give suggestions. I recommend one listen to them. Also, they have wonderful recall. On my third visit, they knew I wanted tea ½ sweet, ½ unsweet with extra lemon. They knew my two favorite dishes. The guacamole cesare is an excellent diced vegetable dish of avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro and optional jalapeño (just under $5). Do not anticipate a traditional guacamole as served in most Mexican restaurants for this is much better. The taco pastor (about $9) is hard for me to pass up as an entrée. It is a fabulous spicy pulled pork with pineapple best served in corn taco with onions, cilantro and tomatillo sauce accompanying. There is also a nacho option which tops the pork with Chihuahua cheese sauce. The pollo poblano is by far the best in town. I could continue but recommend you try El Magueyal for yourself.
