We rented the Faffoos Bear den at the end of July and were excited
from the pictures and the description of the place. Our drive in was
beautiful and the cabin looked great besides the almost unfavorably
steep driveway up to it. Once we got in we noticed we had no cell
signal which would have been fine but it could have been mentioned in
the ad along with the fact that there was no wifi. This is great for
people that want to completely disconnect but some of us need to have
some way for emergency calls or for the simple fact of being able to
look up areas nearby. We had no map that said "you are here" so we
could have a clue where we were and what was around. So plan your
destinations ahead of time or you'll be taking a short trip into town
for a signal to look things up.
Next issue with the cabin was this "queen bed" was actually just a
full, definitely not the best for two adults. Not even an actual
mattress. Then the lack of supplies. If you didn't come prepared with
extra towels, trash bags, toilet paper just go ahead and make a trip
into town, if you are planning on staying more than a couple days.
That peaceful creek out front is beautiful but to its detriment, the
cabin is on a thru road, and with fairly frequent traffic, the
serenity of the babbling waters is often interrupted. You would think
being in the middle of nowhere this thru road would barely be used.
Boy were we wrong. All hours of morning and night people were driving
by, no it wasn't loud but it sure was annoying when you thought you
were getting away from all of that.
That cleaning fee that you pay is actually just paying someone to wipe
down the floors and change out the sheets and towels. We had to get
new sponges to even wash the dishes since the one left for us looked
deadly but make sure you wash those dishes for them. And the extra
tiny fridge is great since they never clean it out from when people
store fish in there so I hope you love that aroma or possibly have
some baking soda with you. Also, you get the lovely pleasure of taking
your trash with you unlike other cabins we've been to that have you
pay a cleaning fee for a reason...because they actually clean up for
you like a real vacation. So we had to pack up everything with us
along with the dog and our bags of trash (mind you they only leave you
with two trash bags so this is where you get to supply your own).
Remember folks collect that trash in the cabin and keep the bags of
trash in the kitchen since you can't put them outside and you can't
just walk down the street to a garbage bin.
Overall the location was nice, close to some great hiking trails and a
short 45 minute drive from Gatlinburg, which is quite the sight. While
we enjoyed our stay at this property and it was a memorable
experience, we don't think we'd revisit this cabin were we to have the
