As this is a long time staple of Jackson, TN, it is still a really good "go to" for home cooked southern food. The atmosphere also has an un-paralled nostalgia in both the dining area, surrounding grounds, and the gift shop. In the gift shop area you will find curious souveniers, an ice cream parlor, candy confections, and a stage area for live performances among many things. All of this said, biggest bit of advice is to get to the buffet while it is still fresh. For some reason, even though food is still very good, on the last few visits, I have noticed that it dries out quickly. Last note is southern hospitality and buffet selection is beyond compare.

If you love Southern country cooking, you must come to the buffet at the Old Country Store. It is one of my favorites of all times. There are always delicious country foods--greens, black-eyed peas, chicken livers, cabbage, etc. It is reasonably priced, and the store is fun also. There are lots of nostalgic candy and gifts. It is worth the stop if you are headed to Nashville.

We had a great meal with lots of fun. My family and friends joined each other for good food and fellowship to bring in the New Year. What a way to have a great start to a new year. Had the usual Black-eyed peas, cabbage, and hog-jowl. Only southerners would be able to appreciate such a meal. We also had Cracklin cornbread. Another southern tradition. You'll come on back now ya heah. This is just plain ole good eating.

We visited Old Country Store on our way to Nashville, TN for breakfast. We knew this place must be good because at 6:45 a.m. on a Friday the parking lot was full of cars. The pricing is reasonable. The selection of food is good. I believe they had every piece of the pig you could cook for breakfast. The store had lots of vintage candy items and keepsakes to remind you of a country home. We didn't get to try the ice cream parlor, but look forward to having dinner here and dessert at the ice cream parlor.

The first time we visited the restaurant it had a fair selection of food, the price was reasonable at $7,99 and that included a drink. The second time we took a friend and if you didn't like soul food then the selection was very limited. The buffet was $12,99 plus $1.99 per drink. That is quite a jump. This visit we were back to $7.99 plus $1.99 per drink and the selection was terrible. Chicken livers, chicken or meatloaf. Every kind of greens you could imagine, great northern beans... all inexpensive sides and no variety. The salad bar has always been pitiful looking. I tried some honeydew and cantaloupe. How could that go wrong? It tasted like they marinated the melon in vinegar. Based on the first visit I gave it 2 more tries but no more for me. They have priced themselves out of the market and decreasing quality and options didn't help their cause. I will miss the Johnny cakes, though.
