We spent two days up in Charit Creek Lodge this past week and it was wonderful. The accomadations though rustic are fantastic if you are a history buff. You stay in a log cabin that was in existence 100 years ago and has remained the same. Oh you don't have electricity well guess what that is the way it used to be. They have bath houses that have flush toilets and hot showers but you will stay in a cabin that has a simple propane lantern for light and a wood stove stove for heat. The dining area is the same motiff, so if you can't live without xbox and video games this is not the place for you but if you want to enjoy life as it was meant to be with babbling brooks, deer in the meadow and moonlit nights this is your place. This place is a must, rediscover back porches, rocking chairs and a good book. There is easy access to a multitude of great hiking trails and if you enjoy horseback riding look up Southeastpacktrips they can arrange rides from the lodge throughout the entire park. (ask for Larry) he was fantastic and catered to all our wishes. The lodge serves breakfast and dinner which is a welcome retreat after a long day of riding. This place is no longer owned by the LeConte lodge and is not located in Seiverville. It is in the Big South Fork recreational area only a couple of hours from Knoxville and Nashville. Areas such as these are disappearing it is pure joy to be able to experience one that is still up and running.

No regrets choosing this as our location to stay for our anniversary. Staff were helpful and food was great. Cabins are well maintained and utilize oil lamps for light. Beds are comfortable. You can hike all day and never see anyone. Now that the Smokies have become one big tshirt shop, big south fork is a refreshing option.

This was my first visit to Charit Creek and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the crew very helpful, loved the history of the property. The cabins are rustic but comfortable, its not a hotel but better then a tent. The short trail in (.8 miles) was steep but easy even with a 3 year old in our family. Not sure why we were on central time since we were in the eastern time zone by all the maps I looked at. All of the guests were confused by this. I have visited other backcountry lodges and they all offer something unique. If you enjoy hiking or even just looking for something outside of the norm then you should visit Charit Creek

We had a wonderful experience at Charit Creek this past weekend. The site is exactly as described by other reviewers - beautiful clearing next to two creeks, accessible by a mile hike down hill. The cabins sleep 6 (three sets of double sized bunk beds). Each one has a wood stove to take off the night chill, a butane lamp for light, and two porches (one screened in) for rocking chair relaxation. The cabins were pristine clean as were the bathrooms and showers (with heated water from solar panels).

The new management comes with hospitality credentials having opened several top fine -dining restaurants in the Knoxville area. We feasted on rosemary chicken breasts, turnip greens, seasoned corn, and warm yeast rolls accompanied by a chilled white wine. It would have been a wonderful meal anywhere - add in the dining by candle light with good company of other campers and the generous, staff who clearly enjoy entertaining and you get an extraordinary experience. Our three year old son wants to go back tomorrow! Our dog didn't want to leave.

The new management clearly knows what they are doing - reserving the rooms was easy and we had email confirmation in 15 minutes. We arrived early, before official check in, and we were greeted warmly and shown to the cabin that was already prepared. They shared the history of the area with us and were helpful in choosing hikes. I can't speak to the board game status but we all kicked around a soccer ball together. This is a professionally run place and I highly recommend it!

This is the third time we have stayed at Charit Creek Lodge over the past 10 years. We use Southeast Pack Trips and ride horseback in to Charit Creek. We usually stay two or three nights and spend the days horseback riding through Big South Fork. Keep in mind you are staying in log cabins with no electricity nor bathrooms and the beds are bunk beds. So don't expect five start hotel bed quality or amenities! There is a separate bath house with showers, toilets and sinks which makes it nice to be able to shower after a day on horseback. It's a great way to experience the wilderness if you want the rustic experience but not have to deal with tents and bringing in your own food.

Our family of two teenagers, my wife, our dog and I just spent a one night stay at Charit Creek Lodge. It was an easy two and a half hour ride from Knoxville. We hiked in on the twin arches trail, the arches are spectacular. The lodge is exactly what the website promised, rustic and relaxing, in a remote setting. The new proprietor and his team did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. We opted for the full service package which included supper and breakfast. The food was good down home comfort food and there was plenty of it. The other guests were fun to talk to and relax with. The rooms while very basic were clean and provided a good nights sleep. Our only complaint was that the price was a little high, but then again we had good family time, ate great food, saw beautiful scenery, met nice people and slept in a log cabin built in 1817 so I all in all it was a good trip. We will definitely go back.

spent one night at charit creek lodge.

Positives:
-food was very tasty and homemade
-woodstove was nice on a cold night in cabin, outdoor fire also possible
-conversation with other travelers at meal times
-quite good hiking around lodge

negatives
-beds were horribly uncomfortable, this was the topic of conversation at breakfast amongst all the overnight guests. I only slept a total of 3 hours.
-I love rustic, but things were a bit run down. Once we were done hiking, it would have been nice to relax and play a board game etc. all of the board games were missing pieces and well used. Time to replace!
-Paid $220 for one night for adult and 2 kids, seemed like a lot based on the accomodations.
-no confirmation of reservations was given although credit card was immediatly processed, I tried calling several days out only to get a busy signal repeatedly.
-We arrived at 3:00 p.m. after a long hike, there wasn't anyone to check us in. This made me a bit nervous, escpecially since I had not been able to contact anyone for days.
after 15 mins wait, someone showed up and checked us in.
