So you wanna listen to some AMAZING music, drink some beer, and have a bite. You can't do better than The Down Home. Look... it's nothing fancy. But that's what makes it great. It's an intimate venue, with great sight lines and wonderful acoustics. They only serve beer, but have a decent selection, including some local brews. The menu is squarely "bar food"... nachos, quesadillas and the like, but it's prepared hot and fresh. But really, you come here for the music. Owner Ed Snodderly (a legend himself) books some of the best local and regional talent. Heavy on bluegrass, but plenty of alt-country and singer-songwriters in the mix. Like Station Inn and the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville, this is a place to showcase musicians. At the shows I've been to, the audiences have been very respectful, keeping talking to a minimum. So come to The Down Home, have a beer and nachos, and get your socks knocked off by some stellar music.

We want to love the Down Home, but they don't make it easy. We arrived at 7:45 for an 8:00 show and were told when we paid our door fee that we needed to get our food order in before the show started. **They don't tell you this on the web site.** We immediately sought out the waitress who said "Don't worry, we'll get you some food." So we sat and waited; she was obviously busy. We waited...and waited...and after half an hour we tracked her down again. "Oh," she said. "I forgot about you. Well, we ran out of food anyway, and the kitchen closed." Um, thanks a lot. Is there still popcorn? "No, we've run out of popcorn." You've run out of popcorn??? So we bought a couple of drinks, watched the first half, and went off to find a more obliging kitchen.

The website also doesn't tell you their address. Kinda basic stuff that would be helpful for visitors, you know.

We can't tell you about the food -- we visited once before and all they could give us was popcorn, so we haven't actually managed to eat there yet. But the music was just fine. If you can track down the address, and arrive 45 minutes before the show to get your food order in, you'll enjoy it.

I've been going to shows at The Down Home since I was a kid and there is not a better listening room in town. Great artists booked all year 'round with a space centered around enjoying the music.

Looks like a dive, which is fine, but OMG a $15 cover! No wonder there were only a handful of customers. Didn't go in...refused to pay cover!

The Down Home is a landmark listening room in the Americana music scene. The acoustics are superb. Many of the biggest names in Americana have played here over the decades and little had changed in those many years. It's great to have a venue where the focus is on the music.
