This hotel has a lot going for itl, but the shabby edges undercut it's appeal. My king-size room (#421) was spacious and the bathroom was HUGE.
Loved the period furniture and flavor, but the place is very shabby. It needs a good scrubbing and some furniture polish to honor the look the hotel is going for. It could be as simple as fresh flowers in the public spaces, new furniture, or touches that would brighten the place up.
The Wellington Restaurant was dark as a cave. I had late breakfast there and ordered an omelette with a side of fries. I asked if the home fries were frozen and the waitress said they were, so I had the fries. they were yummy. The omelette was an omelette.
I'd stay here again (Johnson City is a short ride from Asheville, where I do a retreat every few months) and would love to see the owners show they care about preserving and highlighting the hotel's historic architecture.More
