When my wife and I signed up for this food tour, admittedly, we expected to visit 4-5 local restaurants, having a variety of delicious edibles from each. Instead, we were subjected to only one real restaurant, 2 chips and dip places, a store dedicated to high-end olive oils, and an gelato shop.

We took the downtown tour as were we having a "stay-cation" in town and were staying in a local hotel. First on the list of the "tour" was the Knoxville Visitor's Center where were treated to salsa made by a Knoxville local. Granted, the salsa was good, but c'mon, really? Second on the list was Shonos in City located in Market Square. Now this was what were were thinking when we signed up!! Great place, and I will review them separately. Third on the list was The Market on Union & Gay. That's right, a market, or a convenient store, if you prefer. The food consisted of a local made cheese offering, some yogurt covered pretzels, more of the SAME salsa, and flavored carbonated beverages. Again, c'mon. Fourth was a trip to Coolato Gelato. This is a great place and probably worthy of being on the "food tour". My family and I often visit this establishment and enjoy their gelato. Last on the list was Tree and Vine which is a store dedicated to great tasting, infused, olive oil varieties. Not much a food offering here. Good place if you're into that sorta thing, but a specialty shop specializing in olive oil does not a food tour make. We felt like the experience here was no different than if we had walked in off the street.

Good thing we used a Groupon for this or it would have been MORE money further wasted. Until the downtown tour offers up a better list of actual restaurants, do yourself a favor and skip it.

We went to Knoxville for the day and went on the food tour. The guide was very informative. We never felt rushed since it was a smaller group. Would recommend this to anyone.

The Knoxville food tour was great. Our tour guide, Paula, was very informative and I learned a lot from her about Knoxville. We got to try some great samples from some great restaurants. All of the restaurant personnel were very gracious and welcoming. I do recommend this tour to anyone who would like to try some great food samples, and learn about the history of Knoxville, Tn.
