Think a mini W. This small, artsy hotel was an unexpected, but delightful break, from the Hampton Inns on our road trip home. It's downtown location puts guests right around the corner from a bustling, art/dining and entertainment district. The intimate lobby features bright abstract art hung on dark beige walls. The room was fashionably appointed and the bed linens, crisp and white. The white and black tiled bathroom was roomy, well designed and equipped with a nice line of shower products. If you stay, be sure to check out the bar which is a cozy, funky version of an old, prohibition era speak-easy. Also for dinner, head down the street to Knox Mason, a sleek little bistro that specializes in up-dated, southern cuisine. FYI - easy to get to from the freeway

Room Tip: Not a room tip but a parking tip. No real valet service or place to idle the car for long while chec...

We stayed at The Oliver during move-in weekend at UT, and almost everything about our stay was top notch! The double queen room was large, well decorated and very clean, as was the bathroom. The beds were super comfortable. The hotel is right on Market Square and a short walk away from Gay Street. Both nights we walked to dinner, and it was nice to be so close to the restaurants and shops. There is valet parking for the hotel, but we chose to park in one of the garages close by on Walnut Street. The only negative was the noise from other guests. Our room had an adjoining room, separated by extremely thin doors. The guests next door were speaking in normal tones, but it was as if they were sitting in our room! When that happens at 2 AM, it's difficult to sleep. That fact would not deter us from going back, though. The hotel was too nice, and the location too convenient, for us not to return.

This hotel was a great find. It is older - but well maintained.

When we first arrived, there was no valet. So, I stepped inside and met "Yaz" who was working at the front desk. She stated she was also the valet. She checked us in and then took care of the car. A little while later, my husband went in search of a ice bucket - he ran into Yaz. She said she would be happy to take care of it. A few minutes later, she showed up at our door with an ice bucket full of ice. She did so with a big smile.

The next morning, you guessed it, Yaz was at the desk - smiling. She gave us a great recommendation for breakfast. I later commented to Yaz that she seems to be working all the time and all positions. She just laughed and said she loved working at the Oliver - and I believed her.

While she was the only person around - she managed to cover all of the positions - and again - with a smile. I would hire her in a second - and if I were the management I would give her a raise. We left there, not talking about the hotel.... but the service! Seriously, the hotel was nice - not top notch special, but the service kicked it up a notch!

Oh, and one more thing Yaz taught us that we still laugh about... they have a speakeasy (bar) in the lobby. If the door is open - it is closed. If the door is closed - it is open! You just have to stay there to understand!

My husband and I loved staying at the Oliver. The building was charming, the location fantastic, the service top notch. Having Tupelo Honey restaurant downstairs was a wonderful added plus. Be sure to include the Oliver on your next trip to Knoxville!

The Oliver is a great upscale boutique hotel. It's location is convenient to Market Square and everything in downtown Knoxville including a number of great restaurants. The hotel's library bar is a unique and popular spot and guests are given priority seating. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had a suite with a king bed and queen pull out sofa which was very comfortable.

Stayed with my family of 4 for a weekend (including 2 kids 4 and under). Attended a wedding in Knoxville. The Oliver Hotel has a feeling of nostalgia from the moment you enter. We had a double queen room that was very large and had a big bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. Didn't hear a peep from the other patrons even though the hotel seemed close to sold out.

The location is excellent for visiting Market Street. Plenty of food, entertainment, shopping, relaxing in the park, etc.all around the hotel. Breakfast at the connect restaurant was great!

Several brides with their party were taking pictures in front of - or just inside - the hotel entrance - the space is that desirable/historic it seems. I would stay there again if visiting Knoxville.

My husband and I spent the weekend in Knoxville from August 2 - 4 and stayed at The Oliver Hotel. It is an older hotel, however very clean and well kept. I believe it was recently remodeled. We were greeted as soon as we pulled up in front of the hotel. They have valet parking which was great, because I would not have wanted to find parking.

We were told if we "liked" the hotel on Facebook, that we would get an upgrade if there was one available. While we had a very nice room (suite), an upgrade probably would have meant a better location as we were kind of facing an alley. There wasn't one available, but we were given two drink tickets for the very classy "library" bar. That was fine with us. My favorite part about the hotel room was the large bathroom and shower. I loved the black and white theme.

Upon check in to our room, the radio was on with spa like music and the ice bucket was filled. This was a nice touch.

The bar was a great way to relax and unwind with a drink while waiting to go out for dinner. It is very cozy and the service is prompt. They also have some very creative drinks as well as a good beer selection.

The hotel adjoins the restaurant Tupelo Honey which is one of my favorite restaurants in Asheville, NC. We ate there for breakfast both mornings. The food is good and the service is very friendly and attentive.

The Hotel is located right downtown in a great shopping (boutique), restaurant and bar area. The nightlife is great! There is also a market on Saturdays until 2:00 pm. They had lots of fresh veggies and a big selection of other market type goods.

The only negative with the room was the noise level at night. I think the turn-down service may have turned music on for someone that didn't show up. We heard their music all night long the first night. There is also a good amount of light that comes through the shades. Not a biggie for us, but may be for someone else.

We loved the hotel so much, we are already planning another trip in a few weeks!

Room Tip: If possible, try to get a room on the main street side.
