“A colorful market”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

It well worth a trip to Masaya Craft Market, a lively old market where you can find and learn about authentic Nicaraguan handicrafts.

It is a market within a castle walls; the imposant stone walls that surround the market are an attraction as well. I have found the Masaya Market very diverse. You can find unique Nicaraguan products such as wood carvings, hand woven hammocks, cigars, leather products, embroidered garments etc. Don't forget your negotiation skills!! You'll need them.

“A nice market”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

This is a large collection of vendors selling local crafts. The market is in an old fort of some kind. Many of the vendors sell the same things with some variations. We spent about an hour here as part of a cruise ship excursion. It would have been nice to have a little more time; however, like I said, most of the vendors sell the same things. The items are reasonably priced and can be negotiated.

“Go to the Old Market!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013 via mobile

There is a new market and an old market. Go look in the new tourist market, then shop to buy in the old local market. Prices were 30-40% cheaper in the old market. Basic Spanish and small bills (both US dollars and Cordobas) go a long way in both markets. Bring US denominations between $5-$20, and make sure that all bill are in near mint condition. No vendors will take torn, ragged, tattered, or written-on bills. Prices will vary, but expect to pay more for quality products. Many craftsmen work on-site.

“A tourist market worth visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

While the market is very touristy, it is extremely colorful, there are good deals to be had, and if you look carefully you can find some different kinds of things. My husband found a great pair of leather sandals for $20. Many of the vendors speak English and all were friendly.

“Tourist market”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

We had a difficult time finding items that we wanted to buy. The items were not very well made. Lots of repetition among the booths. One of my sons is fluent in Spanish and got much better prices then the rest of us. We spent an hour here which was more then enough time.
