Came here for 2 nights on an escapes.ie voucher. 2 nights B&B. We upgraded to a second floor Lakeview room for an extra charge of 15eur per room, per night. Room had a lovely view and small French balcony. The room itself was dark, with old style furniture, old fashioned carpet etc. Some people love that style. Also thin walls - as it was a bank holiday weekend, there was a party next door. Comfy bed, spotless sheets. Basic bathroom supplies. An iron in the room, basic tea/coffee facilities and a safe that didn't work as someone had left it closed. We went to reception about the safe and they don't have a skeleton code in the hotel, so they would have to get someone in to get the safe open. This is quite good as it means that staff have no access to the safes. We had some outdoor stuff planned for the day so I was able to leave my jewellery in the safe at reception. We had soup in the bar as we were going to a recommended restaurant later. Food was fine, I was a bit wary after the reviews but it was fine. The breakfast was delicious. They don't have a buffet hot counter but take your order and cook to order. My fiancé had the full Irish and I just had the bits I wanted from a full Irish. Better breakfast than a lot of higher star hotels, it was really good quality. I think the best scrambled eggs I have ever had in a hotel. Unfortunately the weather when we were there was horrendous, floods etc so there is really nothing to do in the hotel when the weather is bad. It is set on its own off the main road, so no where is really walkable. The tv is pretty bad, 2 stations. I figured out the safe code though and got it open - a warning to all, not to use stupid safe codes like 1234, 4321, 1111 as on my 3rd attempt to guess the code, it opened...
Overall a nice 3 star, excellent breakfast and beautiful location but nothing to do when the weather is bad (in fairness, it was extremely bad weather we had, not just a bit of rain) unless you are happy to sit in the bar drinking until it improves. Very friendly staff as well, from reception to bar staff, cleaning staff and restaurant staff at breakfast.

Room Tip: upgrade to the lakeview rooms

We arrived at the lakeside manor hotel on a 3 night break, 2 nights on a groupon and received a lake side view had fabulous views but cost extra . Two adults and child so charged extra for child too. Triple room with a double and single beds very comfortable, loads of towels and spotlessly clean . Loads of hot water , find showers in bath very high sided for getting in and out of and so close to toilet quiet dangerous getting in and out so not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. the TV a disaster as only four channels. No WiFi.
Sat night we were disturbed for some time at 3.30am on saturday night by noisy tenants on the corridor but on ringing reception and complaining a most efficient and professional night porter arrived immediately and dealt with the drunks. Sunday night we were in the bedroom early and while we had a loudspeaker beside our window and a party on with music playing , the music ended at ten thirty and we had no disturbance after that. We only ate breakfast in the hotel and the food was really good, free newspaper is nice touch. All of the staff were really nice and friendly - especially John Joe and Anthony. . The male on reception check in on Saturday afternoon (didnt get his name) but he was great and found my daughters lost toy which saved a sleepless night!! I think the hotel needs to do more to sell its fab location , lighting the lake at night etc, and a designated deck or outside seating area ... rather than garden furniture plonked in the car park which is not very pleasing to the eye. The external of the hotel wouldn't attract you if you were passing by but we could go back again.

Room Tip: Rooms on second floor eg 223, 225 are lake view rooms but cost extra.

We arrived at Lakeside Manor at 3pm. There were a few people eating and the lunch menu seemed reasonably priced so we decided to go for that. What a mistake! I don't think I have ever had such a bad meal and my two companions didn't fare any better. Everything on each plate was totally overcooked, in fact it tasted as if it had been lying around for ages before having been reheated. We complained to the waitress who said it wasn't her fault and we were the only ones who complained. Her only defence was that we had got the last of the lunches. In my view that is no excuse for serving such awful food. If the "last lunches" are so poor they shouldn't charge full price for them. I would certainly never return for a meal here. In fact I wouldn't even return for a cup of coffee!

In addition to getting poor food we had to make a complaint about the state of the toilets.

I travel extensively and eat out a lot in various parts of the country and I feel it is places like this which sully our reputation as a country that provides good food and amenities.

We arrived at the lakeside manor hotel on a 2 night groupon break and upgraded to a first floor lake view room which had fabulous views and worth the extra - or at least would have been if not for the loudspeaker beside our window! We understand music is good entertainment for the atmosphere outside but late in the afternoon (trying for a short nap before dinner)when it is raining outside and no one around - we requested it to be turned off- the owner said she would turn it down!! She didn't for nearly an hour. When I mentioned this on checkout, I was told "yes the music can be very annoying" She did ask about my shin which had been accidentally damaged by a hammer the day before... But didn't even ask to see it! I was not looking for compensation or anything like that, but this was just bad form.
Our room and bathroom were spotless, the food really good, the staff were really nice and friendly - especially Anna May who couldn't have done enough to look after us, thank you Anna :)
One thing the hotel does need to address is the flies... They are a real nuisance especially in the bar and breakfast room, and they could be a bit more diligent in cleaning them up especially in corners! Food in breakfast room should be covered.
We won't be back mostly because of the attitude.

Room Tip: Lake view but away from speakers

Our arrival was a bit nervy when the staff couldn't find our booking but it was soon sorted out by a young man named John-Joe who seemed to do everything from barman to waiter to receptionist. He brought us complementary coffees while he found the booking and ensured that our room was ready. We were put in a room at the back of the hotel, as we didn't want to upgrade to the lake views at the front, overlooking the main road and goods area but the room was clean and equipped as a family triple. The bathroom was clean with ample towels toiletries etc. The bar doubled up as a restrauant, although there is a function / dinning room on the 1st floor, and is extremely busy around tea time with the locals using the facilities which is usually a good sign. The food is of a good standard with excellent staff who cannot do enough to meet all your needs. There was entertainment on one evening which attracted a large local audience and the Guinness was flowing. Breakfast is served in the 1st floor restrauant and you couldn't ask for more choice from cereal, full irish, all types of eggs, scones and jam and someone even asked for a basket of chips which was delivered with no questions asked. In all we had a great stay at the Lakeside with great staff and attentive owners who went out of their way to make our stay memorible. We will be back.

Room Tip: The rooms to the front have great views of the lake.

We had a stay which was all too short in this hotel last week.A lovely place in a delightful setting - the sun shone and all was right with the world. I would have to mention the staff - the young female waitress a chatty , friendly , example of all that is best in Irish hospitality. when we were leaving we needed to get the bus to Dublin which entailed a taxi trip to nearby Virginia. On phoning we found the taxi was unavailable. The Receptionist on overhearing this went to the door and shouted for someone to help.Within minutes we were on our way to the bus stop! A service not readily available everywhere!!

Room Tip: We paid the little extra for the lake view - on a beautiful day, well worth it.
