Went to Kilgraney House for August weekend and really enjoyed it. We stayed in the Frangipani suite and it was very interesting and unusual everything in the room was interesting. The dinner there is one of the best you will find and served in a most relaxing manner al 7 courses. The breakfast was also most enjoyable. The gardens are lovely. We did not get to use the spa but maybe next time. Go and enjoy!

Room Tip: Try the frangipani suite

This was our 5th stay in Kilgraney. We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, it was so relaxing and we really enjoyed walking around the lovely gardens and seeing the huge selection of herbs in the herb garden. The sun shone(for once) and it was very hard to pack the bags and head back to Dublin. You could sit in the sun, close your eyes, hear cocks crowing and smell the fresh air and total peace. The food, as ever, was excellent and beautifully presented, We really liked the art exhibition in their own unique Art/Craft Gallery. There some beautiful pieces of work are on display. We particularly liked the glassware and Martin's own ceramic works. Kilgraney is an ideal location as we visited Kilkenny city 9around 30 mins drive) on one day and Carlow Visual Art centre the next day. If you like culture this is a great base. The House and grounds reflect loving care and we have always found our visits to Kilgraney send us back refreshed, relaxed if in need of serious exercising after the wonderful food. Many thanks for a lovely visit.

What a weekend, I think I just ate all weekend! 7 course dinner and 5 course breakfast and all for a steal of a price. A lovely oasis of calm, tucked away just outside bagnelstown in Carlow. We went on a girly weekend and stayed in two lodges outside the main house. Perfect! G and t's in front of an open fire (yes Irish summers don't you just love them) was a lovely entry to our private dining room and dinner. There are fab gardens, outdoor hot tub, two gorgeous dogs and an eclectic mix that makes this place one to definitely revisit with the hubby. My only complaint is I put on around 3 pounds.

We stayed here overnight last weekend, it was a spur of the moment thing, but an excellent choice as it turns out. I usually rely on the standard of places contained in Ireland's Blue Book so hadn't read any of the reviews on here prior to heading down.

I'd certainly agree with all the positive comments here, and am a little puzzled by the negative (and somewhat personalised) comments about the hosts. I found them both to be extremely pleasant and courteous, hard working and determined to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. It's true one of them is slightly chattier than the other, but both were socialble and warm in their welcome. I'm not a fan of the 'Hi I'm your new best friend' school of service anyhow, so given that starting point I had absolutely no complainants and would whole-heartedly recommend a break here.

THe food was superb, and our accommodation (one of the courtyard suites) was extremely comfortable and well equipped. When we booked there was a chocie of a room in the main house or the courtyard and Bryan did make it clear that the room in the house was on the small side, and when we had a quick look before leaving it was clear that some were pretty small, but bright and sunny.

I'm certainly planning a return trip.

A group of us stayed for an overnight and dinner recently at Kilgraney. The place itself is beautiful. Fabulous house and restored to a very high standard. The house is ran by a couple, one of which was very friendly and courteous and the other to my disappointment was rather cold and unfriendly!
Dinner was good, but certainly not excellent. The fish tasted like it had been frozen and was "watery". Veg was dull and uninteresting. When I asked what one of the cheeses was and where it was from I was simply told the name of it and no more! Breakfast was superb! Lovely selection of lovely home produced products. Again, our 2nd host was borderline rude!
A beautiful place, average food with some friendly service. Unfortunately I wont be rushing back, not usual Blue Book standards.
