Have been to this restaurant a few times this summer and it's been fantastic each time! If you're lucky enough to be there on a sunny day they have a fabulous deck with some of the best views of the beach! Absolute heaven. I've had the BLT, steak sandwich, goats cheese salad and smoked chicken salad (on different visits of course) and all were great. Service is friendly. If you're in the area plan your meal here!

Called into the Barley Cove Beach Hotel for a bite of food last Saturday evening.
It was nearly end of service, but the friendly guys (and girls) in the bar/restaurant kindly ordered my Sirloin steak for me. It arrived as I was finishing my pint (just in time for another), and I can only describe my meal as fantastic!!
Perfectly cooked and tender, with peppercorn sauce on the side, lovely chips and fresh steamed seasonal veg (carrots and cauli) topped with amazing sauteed onions (to die for!)

The golf was on the telly, a fine feed and a couple of beers; just what the doctor ordered!! :)

Anyone else I've spoken to since, all said that the food is alwasy great there.

Well done chaps!
Keep up the good work.

I have been travelling to this resort for years and it remains a very special place for me and my family. Over the past years the hotel has taken many changes and the resort villas have been hugely upgraded. Unfortunately the hotel however lacks the service and quality to match all the upgrades. The potential here is huge, views are spectacular and the grounds are enormous. The food is very average and the service matches. Please upgrade your bar/restaurant standards and bring Barleycove Beach Hotel back to its old friendly, warm, family atmosphere that so many miss.

After such a wonderful visit the year before, we just had to come back with our 2 little boys to this child friendly hotel set above the most beautiful beach in Ireland. It's along drive from anywhere, but it's worth it for the laid back atmosphere and genuine Irish hospitality. We arrived to be told our room was not quite ready, so to go and relax on the terrace overlooking the amazing view and within minutes we were sat chilling with a cold glass of wine and beautiful seafood chowder while the boys played on the deck. Talk about a quick way to destress.

We were then told instead of the family room we had booked (they are a bit small if you are staying for 3 or more nights) we were being upgraded to an apartment with 2 bedrooms as they try to do that if you are staying more than 2 nights with children! It was a fantastic upgrade at no extra cost and really made the holiday. We were lucky with the weather yet again and were in the sea everyday. Everyone was so friendly, staff and other guests and the boys made friends quickly. The fresh fish was amazing everynight.

The lighthouse at Mizen head was open this time and it was a brilliant day out with the museum and history very well displayed. The bridge over to the lighthouse is not for the faint-hearted, but my eldest boy loved it.

We will definitely be back again!

We had a lovely weeks holiday in the adjoining apartments of the hotel , it was our first family holiday with our 7 month old son and the staff were very accommodating. The apartment itself was very nice - plenty of room for the three of us and had all the amenities that you need with a young child such as microwave and washer/dryer. The view from the balcony was quite spectacular overlooking the beautiful Barleycove beach and the sound of the ocean in the morning and the sight of the sun rising and setting over the peninsula was a joy to behold. The hotel staff were very obliging and Sean and Mark in particular were lovely to deal with. The food is second to none and the fresh fish and full Irish breakfast were really delicious. A small drive from the hotel brings you to Crookhaven where the views and the food were also quite stunning. Plenty of areas to visit including Mizen Head about 5 mins drive from the hotel boasting as spectacular a view as one could hope to see in any part of Ireland and other places such as the Fastnet Bar in Goleen where the food and craic is mighty - a little bit of old Ireland but with a touch of the modern - barstaff were lovely and even had WIFI !!
All in all I must say we really enjoyed our stay in the Hotel Apartments and after hearing so much nice things about the area and the hotel ( 2 of my brothers and their families have mobile homes in the area and have spent many joyous summers in the area ) we felt it was time to experience the unique atmosphere of the area. It was our first time in the area, in fact it was my first Irish holiday since childhood and we really had a great time - my wife loved it as well and our 7 month old baby boy really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere enjoying his naps very often enabling us to enjoy the wonderful scenery the superb food and the fine foods available through the whole area - and just for measure he even cut his first teeth whilst we were there !
Looking forward to next year already and trying out some of the many water sports and activities that are available in the area.
Being from Cork city and having travelled far and beyond on holiday these past 15 years or so - who would have known that such a place so near yet so wondrous existed ! Barleycove is truly a majestic area and I would advise anyone sick of the same old package holidays abroad to try this area because surely you will not be disappointed.

On quite a few occasions I found myself saying to the mrs "Jaysus you'd forget we're still in Cork !! "
Barleycove - where time stands still in peace and serenity and where one can forget all about the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
