“Really bad stay”
Reviewed 1 January 2009

We booked into the Seaview Hotel for a 2 night stay. The food was average (both at the bar and the breakfast). We were given a room above the bar which was cold and smelled musty. A band started playing in the bar at 11.20pm. We returned to our bedroom at around 11.50pm and unfortunately the band's sound carried through to the bedrooms. We rang reception to request a room change. The duty manager (who was unhelpful and aggressive) informed us that we were the only people to ever complain about the noise and he told us we we should be down in the bar enjoying the music. We were relocated to a room at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately later on that night we were awoken by load sounds from the nightclub which is located at the side of the hotel. The following morning we spoke to the receptionist (who was very nice). She apologised for everything that happened the previous night. She admitted that she had received complaints from several bedrooms regarding the noise and explained that the nightclub had recently installed a new sound system which could be heard in the bedrooms.

It cost us €140 to stay in this hotel for one night. We checked out after the first night because it was so bad.

Myself, husband and two young children stayed in the hotel in June and found our stay to be enjoyable and comfortable. The children had a great time in the area and loved the fact that they were so close to the beautiful beach located just across the road. The hotel itself was your standard 3* hotel, with spacious rooms and basic facilaties. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the food was very good. The only issue i had with the hotel itself was the relatively long walk from the reception area to our room at the back of the hotel. Although the benefit of these rooms located at the back of the hotel is that they were very quite. All in all we had a lovely stay at this hotel and i have recommended it to many of our friends and family.

We stayed at the Seaview last weekend (11th July) for two nights as we attended a wedding in Gweedore. Location is lovely but we were charged €140 per night for the pleasure. The hotel is a 1 or 2 star standard, the room, while a nice size, the throw for the bed stunk of mould and the bathroom was not clean. There was an ancient TV in the corner of the room and the windows were tiny.

I accepted that since it is rated 3 star then it would not be luxury but for the money we were charged I would have expected ALOT more. €140 is a 4 or 5 star rate in a city and not a 1 or 2 star hotel in the middle of nowhere! We didn't dare sample the dinner there but the breakfast was very poor - the fry was pot luck - you may get some sausages if you were lucky. The fried eggs tasted as if the pan they were cooked in had not been cleaned for years. That coupled with the cheapest orange cordial made for a poor breakfast.
Again this would be acceptable in a 1 or 2 or even 3 star hotel but not for a price of €140 per night for a double (dirty) room!!!!

We stayed in the Seaview for one night. The hotel is very close to the airport so ideal if your flight gets in late. The hotel itself was your typical 3 star hotel. The bedroom was very large but basic. The bathroom however was quite poor and freezing cold as the window didn't seem to close correctly. The bar in the hotel was fine with a very friendly bar man. Unfortunately the restaurant had closed when we arrived so we didn't get the chance to try the food. Breakfast was average, friendly service but pretty standard fare.
The hotel is located close to the airport and is a good option. I wouldn't stay longer than one night though. I'd also request a quiet room as there is a nightclub at the back. That said, the town itself was deathly quiet the night we were there.

  • Liked — Location near to the airport yet remote.
  • Disliked — Bathroom was awful.

We were driving through the wilds of Donegal - with some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen - and started to look for somewhere to stay the night. Not easy in late October - Donegal is very quiet then and plenty of places were closed. The hotel receptionist was new, and not yet trained, but very willing. She rang her manager to get a decision on a free upgrade to two double rooms at the front instead of a family room at the back whilst we went off to the beach (outstanding, 1 minute drive away). The receptionist rang within the hour and confirmed we could upgrade. The rooms were large, comfortable, adequate - the windows were very small so the sea view was hard to get. But it was at the front, and away from the disco at the back. The breakfast was fine, I have had better Irish breakfasts, but the hotel was very quiet and perhaps the staff were not in top gear. There are some good music bars in the area but, once again, they were closed so do check with tourist board out of season. Beautiful area though.

Started off in a room with half the ceiling lights not working. The room smelled slightly damp but it was noticable. We them moved to another room and it was much better. It could be a little cleaner - again, one of the lights ran out of power but we made do as I was leaving the next day! The Gola restaurant is nice - breakfast was good and plentiful. Beautiful scenery and I would recommend walking down tot he beach (beware, steep hill!). I wouldn't stay there again as en route I noted lovely B&B's which I'm sure will be more comfortable and less noisy.
