The Highlands is a lovely hotel - warm, traditional welcome, with friendly, helpful staff, a relaxed atmosphere, and yum food (and plenty of it). Great base for exploring Donegal. Definitely recommend it.

Eastonia can recommend another great place to stay, we were traveling around County Donegal, in Ireland, with friends, who were on holiday, we stopped at The Highland Hotel, in Glenties, for lunch, I must say the food was excellent, as was the service. We found the Hotel, spotless, friendly and very comfortable. Rate for B&B are between €35-€45 per night depending on the time of year.
The scenery in the area is unbelievable as is the Sandy Beach at Nairn, Portnoo, which is only a few miles away from the Hotel, for booking accommodation or evening meals telephone from UK 00 353 749551111

We stayed just one night while playing Narin & Portnoo Golf Club. This hotel is near the course and located on main street in Glenties. It is old fashioned guest inn and is really nice place to stay. Food was great in the dining area - ahd breakfast and dinner. Service was realy good and helpful. Nice walk around Glenties, too.

Room Tip: All rooms would be similar. i stayed in room Meryl Streep slept in while in a play.

Anyone looking for a friendly base to stay in Donegal , The Highlands Hotel in Glenties is perfect! Our whole family arranged a surprise get together for my fathers 95th! Catherine and Johnny (your hosts) will take care of your every need. Rooms are large with ensuite, wifi, TV and tea and coffee facility. Clean and very comfortable, the Ritz they are not, but you are not paying those prices! Food is excellent with a good wine selection. Sinead , Aileen r sister Catherine man the reception and will be glad to assist you in every way! The bar is a good size and we'll stocked, with the one and only Lucia at the Helm! If ye don't get the weather you were expecting, Lucia, wonderful smile and friendly nature will brighten the day! ( but she's not on the menu!!private joke!) a successful get together , thank you all so so much for everything , will most definitely return again! Excellent over all value for money and a great location! Fox o Donovan England !

A large group of us stayed here recently. We stayed 2 nights and had dinner and were in the bar all evening. Christine 'hung around' outside rooms checking if we were drinking in our room. I brought a bottle of Cava and asked for ice to my room on arrival which we were given no problem. ( I alone spent 60 euro at the bar on drinks and there was approximately 25 of us staying). She told a family member of ours off saying how were they to make a profit. First of all Christine, I stay in London all the time where all the decent hotels have ice machines in the hall for those people having a drink whilst getting ready to go out. Its an unwritten rule that hotels know people probably bring a bottle before heading down to the bar. I would guess our whole group, rooms, dinners and staying at the bar til after 3 probably paid well over 4,000 Euro and thats probably conservative. My father was given a rare whiskey which we had a glass with him before he turned in, guess who was right outside the door?? (creepy...) Aside from this, the staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating and the service was great. I would agree that the decor needs a decent overhaul, bit swirly carpet, 1970's vibe going on. Dinner ok, mussels were fab. Christine, leave the hospitality to your lovely daughters and stay behind the scenes, as I would not recommend to friends, nor would my family stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the more updated rooms, some are very worn out.

What a lovely homely hotel, family run business and down to earth people. Old style hotel but bed was extremely comfortable and meals were good also. Away from all the hustle and bustle of rat race life and into peaceful, warm surroundings. A bit old fashioned but it didn't bother us at all. We were very happy here and were made very welcome. Steaks were good as was breakfast - made to order. Would go back again for relaxing atmosphere.

Room Tip: If you like all mod cons and leisure centre etc. then not the place for you - this is old style Irel...
