“Needs work”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014 via mobile

Stayed recently and was left feeling this property needs an overhaul. Having stayed here before I was disappointed after this stay for a number of reasons.
At check in I was left with the option of taking a smoking room or go elsewhere. No recollection of this being an option at web booking and very surprised that smoking rooms still exist. Took the room and the smell of smoke was evident.
No air conditioning in rooms and they felt rather stuffy in addition to the smoke smell - left windows open and noise from guests returning late was a nuisance - it's a party venue hotel it appears as we saw two hen/stagg groups.
Found a bottle of Radox shampoo in bathroom left by previous guest so questions raised about standard of cleaning. Thankfully all else appeared ok.
Property could do with a refurb and could be so much better - nice food and spacious foyer and bar area. Good value is main reason to stay but needs to improve standards or value will count for nothing.

Previously posted on booking.com - but no response from staff - another disappointment!

The rooms were clean, tidy & spacious. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Having previously advised that my son had a nut allergy, when we arrived at breakfast, we asked who would be able to tell him what items on the buffet were suitable. We were informed that they would not guarantee anything was nut free! (and she thereafter proceeded to tell us that a child had suffered anaphylaxis the previous week and had to use an epipen). A large hotel should be able guarantee where there food has been bought, prepared and at the very least be able to supply cereal and fruit. (I'm sure you will have used small individual packets of cereal or yoghurt pots, in the past) . Having a few of these for this type of situation will earn you some extra praise from parents in a similar position. This was very disappointing for a 15 year old!

Dear Marie9698
Thank you for your review for Bewleys Hotel Leoaprdstown, and indeed for your many positive points.
In relation to the nut alergy the staff have been advised by the Enviromental Health Officer to always state that although the food item may not contain nuts we do use some in the kitchen and this may contaminate some foods.
We do of course have some individualy wrapped foods that are always available.
I would welcome the oppurtunity to welcome you back to the hotel

Kind Regards

Booked a twin as I was travelling with my sister. When we got to the room it was a double and also reeked of smoke. Didn't even know hotels still allowed smoking in room. Rang reception. Ordered to come back down to reception with all baggage. Questioned about how long we had been in room etc, no apology, before being given key to a different room. I was very unimpressed. There appeared to be lots of teenagers wandering around reception. Felt a bit like a hostel. Rooms have become quite shabby. I have stayed here often in the past but doubt if I will again.

Our bed was broken which we didn't realise till 2am. Got transferred to an "executive room" which literally was the exact same room layout except a flat screen tv instead of an old crt tv. Received no recompense for this or barely an apology.

Rooms are stated to be soundproof when they are anything but. Noise from outside, noise from the hall, noise from the room above and a buzzing noise from the bathroom made it very hard to sleep.

Paying 10 euros a night for parking when you are miles away from the city centre is also nonsense.

I would never stay here again.

Visited with a group of 22 boys and leaders attending a Rugby Tournament in Terenure.Very easy to find. Hotel was clean both public areas and rooms. The hotel was very warm especially at lift area, bedrooms warm even with radiator off, had to keep window open all night. We had our evening meal in the hotel and all food was tasty and good portion size. Lovely coffee dock , foyer and bar area. Bedrooms well equiped with tea/coffee facilities , extra towels , iron , hairdryer, toiletries...all you need for your stay. Shoe shine machine at lifts. Vending machine at lift area for a midnight snack. TV in bedroom could do with updating , it an old tube TV with poor reception. Breakfast was included in our deal , good choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, scones, Danish pastries, croissants, cooked breakfast- eggs, beans, sausage, bacon, black pudding, hashbrowns, toast , fruit juice , tea and coffee . Didn't expect to pay for car park, but at least car secure and residents got reduced rate€10 instead of €15. Any problems we had were minor and quickly sorted by efficient friendly staff.

This is very convenient when travelling from Rosslare to south Dublin. Hotel is functional rather than being an attractive building, (unlike the Bewleys at Ballsbridge), but the rooms are comfortable and the food very good. Staff are very helpful and the parking arrangements easy to use.
