“Perfect Dublin Getaway!”
Reviewed 17 October 2011

My wife, 2 boys & I took advantage of a one night b&b offer through a popular loyalty card scheme, which turned out to be wonderful value break. Within an easy & quick drive from the city, the lovely driveway & mature tree-lined grounds reveal a beautiful house & outbuildings.
The reception staff and porter gave us a friendly and welcoming arrival, and our family room was spacious, comfortable & well equipped with lovely mahogany furniture.
The main house is fabulous, with high ceilings & lovely art work, and has a lovely bar area / drawing room, where we had pre-dinner drinks. Being a saturday night, the restaurant was busy, giving the room a lovely buzz, the pianist added furthermore to a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent, perfectly cooked & well presented with generous portions. The service, whilst not seemless was friendly and coped well with a full room.
The following morning, following a very good sleep on the extraordinarily comfortable bed, we started our day with a dip in the pool. Whilst not huge, it was a lovely start to the day. A lovely self service breakfast followed, again served in the restaurant, which was again very busy, and was plentiful & hot! Whilst being seated our very pleasant waiter told us "don't be shy- help yourself"!!
Our experience at Finnstown finished with a brief stroll around the lovely gardens, and again a very friendly & efficient check out at reception.
In summary, we really enjoyed our stay, the staff (and clearly, the management) are doing a great job, and compliment the lovely setting wonderfully well. Prior posts are right, it is a little old fashioned, but that only adds to the charm. I'll take that over the many soulless hotels that have sprung up over so many parts of the country any day of the week...

Stayed in Finnstown house hotel for 3 nights from the 26/9/11 with my husband and 3 children ages 6,4 and 18 mths. I cannot say enough good things about the hotel itself ,set in such wonderful surroundings with beautiful gardens plenty of space for the kids to enjoy. The staff were amazing they did everything they could for us especially the breakfast staff, our kids spoilt for choice (hot chocolate and pancakes went down a treat!!)thanks Barry and all!! We ate in the peacock restaurant again food was superb and staff brilliant!! Their was also a small pool which the kids got great use of any really enjoyed, the only bad thing was the radiator in the family suite of our bedroom would not switch off so room got a bit hot but ,maybe that could be fixed for next time???/we ll definitely be back ,can't wait !!!Thanks to all for making our stay so memorable
ps we booked our stay with supervalu getaway breaks, brilliant value !!

We stayed here 2 nights for the Solheim Cup on 24/9/2011 and I'll definitely be back as the staff were so genuinely warm and welcoming and obviously love their roles. It's a lovely house with a warm comfortable atmosphere and the food was great in the restaurant.
We arrived a bit early in the morning for check in but we were treated to tea and toast and got advice from our waiter on the quickest way to get to the golf course. You just can't beat the local knowledge and he even printed out a google map!
Our rooms were "Lawn suites " which were not part of the old house but were extremely spacious with twin double beds. It's obviously popular for weddings but this does not detract from regular guests enjoyment of the hotel.
All in all you feel like you're "at your Grannys"...they're delighted to see you and can't wait to spoil you.

We got married in August and had our reception in Finnstown House, and I can't fault one thing about it. It was absolutely perfect, down to every detail. The staff were amazing, no problem with the fact that we were delayed about 40 minutes due to my father in law's late arrival at the ceremony, meaning the dinner was delayed, but they made no deal of it which we really appreciated. The food was superb, really delicious, each course served in quick succession, and the wine glasses were always full. It was perfect. They even went to the trouble of going to a pub across the road to buy a case of rum when we finished what they had in the residents bar! The layout is perfect, with an adjoining room to the reception for when people want to talk rather than dance, with plenty couches and another bar. When the residents bar closed at 4am they allowed us to stay in the room and continue the sing song until we were ready for bed. We also reserved 2 sections of the cellar bar downstairs on the following day as most guests stayed the second night, we had a buffet dinner and again the staff were brilliant, making sure there was enough food, eager to help with anything we wanted, even bringing down sandwiches for us later in the evening. There was nothing they wouldn't do for us. We are so grateful, the hotel is perfect for what we wanted, it's private, small, and cosy, and set on lovely grounds away from the road, we may as well have had the whole place to ourselves, and everyone was more than happy with their accommodation. We could not have imagined it going better. A massive thank you to the manager and all the staff, it was a weekend we'll definitely never forget. Even after all that rum! Jane & Vinny

We came back today after a weeks stay in this fabulous hotel. We were upgraded to a suite in the residency. Fantastic!!! The staff are so helpful and friendly. We had a wee problem with the bath tap and the manager ensured it was fixed that day and he asked the next couple of days if it was still ok. The food is first class and the grounds are lovely. The best hotel we've ever stayed in. We had a lovely restful break. I recommend you go to this hotel.
