I think this was our 5th stay at Finnstown and everything I wrote in my first review still stands. It's great: the staff are wonderful, in partiicular Aisling at reception and Sean in the dining room. The food is excellent, we had lunch with friends in the bar, dinner one night in the main dining room and breakfast both mornings. Our room, 34, was lovely with plenty of towels and a good shower.
It's good value as they often have special offers. It was busy with Confirmation families and a wedding while we were there but there was plenty of staff to take care of things. I left a note book behind when we checked out and they called us to let me know then posted it back to me. I was both grateful and impressed. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We like the rooms in the main house and the ones overlooking the tennis courts look nice from outsid...

Beautiful secure well kept grounds. We were there on a beautiful day but not once did anyone come to take out order. We then moved into the bar for some bar food and this is where it all changed. There was loads of staff on about 5 behind the bar. However we sat and had to ask for someone to take our order. We asked for a high chair and we got a dirty one, it had not even been wiped down. Our food arrived and it was ok but definitely not worth the price €13-15 for a main course. The childrens meal was an absolute rip off at €10 for a kids portion ( 3 goujons and a handful of chips ) and jelly and ice-cream, was meant to come with beans and didnt then we were not even offered the jelly and ice cream. One of our mains was meant to come with a side and it didnt. Overall the grounds are beautiful but the food and bar service has a lot to be desired

Will start this by admitting I am biased when it comes to Finnstown as we had our wedding reception there 10 years ago. Returned for our anniversary and was concerned it might not live up to my memories but it still has it! As hotels go, there are more modern slick hotels out there but they often lack 'personality' and that is where Finnstown comes into its own! It is such a relaxing haven with wonderful staff. We had booked into one of the self-catering residences but the smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming - a quick call to reception and we were offered a room in the main hotel. The room was lovely - nothing spectacular but clean and warm and had a great shower! Breakfast was lovely - Saturday morning was table service but Sunday was buffet - although the hotel was busy, this didn't cause any problems at the buffet and the choice of food was plentiful! Ate in the bar on our first night - very good and in the peacock restaurant on our second night - the meal and service excellent! Hope to get back again soon - certainly wont be leaving it as long as 10 years till our next visit!

We brought a wedding party of almost 30 to this hotel for a four-day stay, and no one was disappointed. The rooms and common areas are clean and comfortable, the food is excellent and the grounds are well-cared for. Walking distance to Dublin train (a 15-20 minute ride) which is a huge plus. Nice pub with friendly bartenders. Hotel's female staffers are great; we got nowhere with the guys behind the desk, who confounded simple requests. Absolutely recommend a night or two here.

Room Tip: Main house rooms are best.

Finnstown House is a beautiful hotel with fantastic gardens and a peacock or two.

We stayed there in May 2013 as a group of two families with very small children. The little ones loved the gardens, peacocks and pool while the big ones were very content with the great breakfast (you can ask for pancakes, a full fry up and other options!!) the lovely bar and very helpful staff.

The family rooms are very large and very comfortable with a full size kettle and a fridge.

If you are there with children nearby Corkagh Park (less than 10 minutes drive) is great for long walks, a huge playground and a free petting zoo!

There were only a couple of negatives. The gardens did have some rubbish and staff are very slow to remove used glasses and dishes from the garden area. Also the pool water was a little milky looking and I suspect that the mild eye and sinus infections we all contracted were related to this.

We did send an e-mail regarding these issues to the hotel but did not get a response. If they had replied I don't think I would have mentioned the issues on Trip Advisor.

We would stay here again and recommend the hotel for family, couples and business stays.

We stayed here en route from London to Galway. After a long drive and ferry trip it was good to arrive here. We were travelling with our pet Labrador and she was allowed to stay in our room with us ( a designated pet room) which was great. The room was clean. The shower a bit weak. The furnishings OK for the price of he room. He breakfast was a bit disappointing. Eggs swimming in oil and sausages that I suspect were bought in Lidl rather than a local framers shop !

Stayed here while guest at a wedding. Had a room across the lawn from the main building overlooking the tennis court. It was spacious with two double, comfortable beds. Decor and bathroom fittings a bit dated but in keeping with the period of the property. Nice toiletries; hairdryer; well stocked tea & coffee making facilities; and fridge in the room. Despite there being a lot of people in the hotel the room was quiet. We ate in the lounge and the food was well presented, very nice and reasonably priced. The breakfast selection was very satisfying with all the makings of a full Irish breakfast plus fruit, yogourts, pastries, juices etc and plentiful supplies of tea and coffee from the very pleasant staff. While we were not using this as a base to explore Dublin, the hotel's situation within beautiful grounds would be a lovely place to go back to after a hard day's sightseeing and maybe use the leisure centre. A country house experience with the city at your disposal.
