This was quite simply one of the best dining and hotel experiences anywhere.
Inis Meain Restaurant & Suites take their inspiration from agri-turismo and eco tourist businesses in Europe and elsewhere. From my experience of ventures in Spain and South America they are top of that league.
The food is excellent, superb quality ingredients cooked to perfection. There is great diversity in the menu so you can sample a good choice over a few nights. The wine list is really well chosen.
A breakfast tray is placed inside your door every morning with an abundance of fresh fruit, ham, cheeses, muesli, poached eggs - the list goes on.
The suites themslves are well laid out and allow the island express itself with a wall to wall window.
As we were leaving we asked ourselves what would we change about the whole set up; the answer was nothing.
Marie Therese and Ruari have created something quite exceptional here. While the quality of all that's described above will be self-evident to anyone who stays there, there is an underlying confidence, ambition and sincerity at Inis Meain R&S which is refreshing.

Room Tip: All rooms are great

Myself and my wife have just had our second break at the suites. We shall return.
Good friends and excellent food, combine to refresh the soul.
And the pub is within walking distance....;)

Myself and my mum spent two very peaceful days in the suites. Architecturally impeccable; these suites are stylishly minimalist. The interior greys, whites and browns beautifully complement the natural hues of the landscape. Restful, peaceful ambience and of course the island is wonderfully unspoilt .Views from the suite windows are memorable. Time passes oh so very slowly! However, be warned the breakfast is cold fare in a box left in your suite porch; We got 4 slices of ham ,3 or 4 slices of camembert cheese with french stick style bread, chocolate spread , natural yoghurt ,apple juice and jam in little jars and muesli with ( disappointingly) one dessert bowl of cut up fruit to share. pretty standard fare. there is no option of hot breakfast in the restaurant - we were disappointed and would have loved warm porridge or poached eggs, but maybe the cold food idea appeals to others. We were just not that keen on having to breakfast in the suite, setting out our own plates , boiling the kettle, clearing away our delf back into the box - reminded me too much of what i have to do everyday at home! Otherwise, marie therese gave us a lovely guided drive around the island which we appreciated very much , my mum is not so great at walking. Indeed the island is probably better suited to the outdoor type. That being said the suites are lovely and warm - wonderful to walk into after a spell outside. my mum never felt the slightest bit cold.dinner menu was the same both nights in the restaurant with no chef special or catch of the day - that was bad luck for us , apparantly lobster and crab did arrive in the sunday night after we had gone. A good excuse for me to return to sample it next year no doubt. all in all worth a visit.

My girlfriend and I caught the early evening flight from Connemara airport for the first of a two-day stay at the Inis Meain Restaurant & Suites. The flight, on an eight-seater plane, was a highlight of the trip by itself and I would recommend it to everyone for the view and 10-minute flight time alone. Picked up from the airport by the courtesy mini-bus, we were struck immediately by what an amazing setting Inis Meain is. Although the island is small it is criss-crossed by stone walls and walking and cycling routes - certainly enough to explore over the two days we were there. It's worth walking up to the two forts and, for a longer walk, beginning at Synge's chair and hiking around the coast of the island. In parts, with the prevailing winds blowing, it can be bleak and rain-gear is certainly recommended though! We ate at the Restaurant & Suits on both days, and enjoyed simple, locally-sourced meals prepared by Ruairi in an open kitchen. One small disappointment was that lobster wasn't available, but the crab starter and scallops are highly recommended for seafood lovers. Our suite was spacious, with a great view from the long strip-window. The island is a great place to decompress and 'get away from it all' and given the size of the island you are forced to relax and slow down a few notches, taking your time over the (deservedly famous) breakfast platter left outside your door each morning. If I were to chance one thing about our trip, however, it would only have been to arrive earlier on Friday, so as to enjoy the island more fully, and possibly leave earlier on the Sunday rather than catching a later flight. I might also have brought along some craft beers and stuck them in the suite's fridge to enjoy (the restaurant serves only wine for the moment). Overall a very unusual get-away which combines a phenomenal, isolated, setting with having great food and accommodation close to hand. You find even find time to read Synge's essays about Inis Meain when you're on the island itself...
