“A home from home”

Tigh Congaile is the perfect base on inis mean and Vilma and Ann Marie, her daughter, are excellent hosts. They make you feel so at ease in their home. I cannot overstate how good the food is, it is fine dining at it's best, Vilma's attention to detail is amazing. The greens in the goats cheese salad are all individually hand picked from the garden. I tried everything on the menu, and it was superb. The chowder, lobster,(see picture, tasted as good as it looks, came with garlic butter on the side but I didnt need it, meat was so good on its own) catch of the day was pollock. The desserts are addictive, I had the pear tart on 2 nights and the brownie on my final night. Try the tapas from 12-4 also and the bordeaux is well recommended a beautifully well rounded creamy red. It was my first time on all 3 islands and inis mean stands out for the reasons already set out in the other reviews, I am planning to go back next month, to experience the peace of the island and of course vilma's cooking.

Tig Congaile is located in a perfect spot to explore gorgeous Inis Meáin. Sitting right at the foot of two of the island's most beautiful hiking trails, it's a 5 minute walk from the pub, so if you want to socialize at night, you don't have far to walk in the dark coming home (though it is a beautiful walk under the stars!). I can't say enough about the staff and about Vilma, who is a truly outstanding cook. Even if you don't end up staying here, make a reservation for dinner and you will enjoy some of the island's freshest and most inventive food. Staying here for two nights was one of the highlights of a fantastic trip to Western Ireland. The only downside was saying goodbye.

Ihe island, Inis Meáin and its people are amazing for visitors like me, who just want to experience the light and the landscape and some taste of island life. As there are litlle tourists who end up here, the locals are very nice and interested. The B&B Tig Congaile make this experience even more impressive. Very friendly and warm owners, simple but comfortable rooms and wonderfull food. It's as much as possible localy produced,(Vilma likes to catch her own fish and collect her sea vegetables) very fresh and perfectly cooked. Try the catch of the day, the lobster, the crab claws and all the desserts! The breakfast is also to die for, al kinds of egg dishes coocked to order, fresly baked mini muffins, fresh fruit and a lot more. It was hard to leave the island after 4 days en i'm sure i'll be going back.
For the majortity of people I would say: "don't go to Inis Meáin, there is noyhing to do there but walking and going to the one pub or the one hotel for a beer, and great local food." . Indeed, it's not for everyone and it wouls be nice if it could stay like that.

Tig Congaile is a must stay. The food is terrific and the hospitality is first rate. Cannot imagine a summer without visiting Inis Meain. Vilma provides a home away from home. The beds are comfy and the views spectacular.

The welcome, hospitality, room and food were wonderful! Tig Congaile was a most welcomed and appreciated respite. When first I arrived I was cordially welcomed, shown to my room, then served a hot cup of coffee. Family members then chatted freely with me, answering questions and providing walking suggestions. All meals and service were excellent. I particularly was grateful for the anonymity allowed me. I will definitely give a "thumbs up" to my travel agent. I hope to return.

We did not stay here but enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant immensely.

Who would have thought that my first encounter with beetroot hummus would be on a small island off the west coast of Ireland. I had never heard of the combination before but, being addicted to beetroot, I had it as my starter and it did not disappoint.

The main course of pan-fried salmon was delicious as was the seaweed in batter - another new sensation for me.

Dessert was good, if not memorable, and we finished up with coffee.

The bill for two, which included a glass of wine and a soft drink, was very acceptable.
