“Shh: Don't tell anybody about An Dun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Our second visit to Inis Meain and first to An Dun, but we will be back. Three fantastic days in early July, warm, cloudless days of endless sunshine, we were lucky with the weather.

An Dun is a real find, lovely people running a small B&B high on the island with great views.

Great food, we had dinner on all three nights, once outside on a balmy evening. The fish was great and we would have selected that each evening. Breakfasts very good, fruit, cereals, eggs etc. Lovely bread with everything. On two of our days we eat lunch in An Dun which is a measure of how we regarded the food.

Inis Meain might not be for everybody, but we wanted peace, tranquility, sea, walks, walls and to get away from everything - and we certainly got that.

So, we would fully recomend An Dun and we will be going back ourselves.

One tip: take the taxi from the ferry, we chose to walk the few Km on one of the rare days of 25C - not the smartest idea, we did take the taxi back to the early boat a few days later after a special early breakfast.

We stopped only for lunch, but it was worth it.
The chowder was very very good (one of the best ever) and the carrot cake lovely.
Looking at the menu the dinner should be also quite good.
The place to go in Inis Meain, both for accomodation and for eating

Me and my husband stayed there for a night in July 2009. And you see - so many years after I still feel like writing raving review about this place:) I don't think this B&B was here on TripAdvisor at that time, that's why I didn't do a review right away. Usually we stay in big chain hotels. But here in Inish Meain (though there are no chain hotels- to begin with :) I chose this place, as I thought it would be really great "authentic" kind experience. And it was! The owners are very nice people, we really enjoyed communicating with them. The room was very clean and nice. The food was just wonderful! All I can say about this place comes with exclamation sign. I would highly recommend it. It was one of the most romantic hotel stays in my life!

Padraic and Teresa, who are lovely people, provide as much of the table as possible from their own garden. The fish is off the boat that morning. Every evening, there were three starters, three mains, and three desserts from which to choose, and every morning there was plenty of choice, including homemade jam and marmalade. The furnishings in the bedroom may be aging, but they are comfortable, the shower is strong, and the views are irresistible. Inis Meain is not for everyone, because it doesn't do any tricks, but it's definitely for me. Be sure to bring stout shoes and good luck trying to walk every one of the little meandering roads.

My wife and I recently spent a night at An Dun B&B. Without a doubt this was the most beautiful setting and room of any of the B&B we stayed at around Ireland. Teresa is a warm hostess and excellent innkeeper. She's also a wonderful cook, made us very comfortable and offered suggestions for us while on the island. We also recommend her dinner menu.
We carry special memories from this visit. When in this area, a trip to Inish Maan and An Dun B&B is a must.

First of all, I cannot more highly recommend that people visit Inish Maan if they make the journey to Ireland. It's a fascinating and calming environment, and we felt that it gave us a real picture of what Ireland used to be. The people are so kind and welcoming, but there weren't a lot of them, so we felt we had some privacy. The people who were running An Dun, Nancy and Padraig, were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We arrived on the early ferry, and though they weren't expecting us until later, they got our room ready and gave us coffee and biscuits while we were waiting. The views from our room were breathtaking, and we even slept under a skylight. The food was delicious, the rooms were clean and warm, and the people were delightful. Can't go wrong if you stay here!

I need to respond to the individual who wrote "Go Hungry Instead," Inish Meian is a far-off-the-normal-tourist-path kind of place, and so is An Dun. It isn't for everyone, and it's clear that the reviewer wasn't one of those for whom it is suited. Perhaps one shouldn't expect authentic Mexican salsa in a B&B in Galway Bay. My friend and I stayed at a cottage nearby An Dun and stopped there for dinner during our stay in September of 2011. The food was fresh and delicious; the vegetables came from their own garden.Teresa and Padraig are an intelligent couple and the friendliest and most helpful people one could ask for. Even though we weren't staying with them, they helped us with details like contacting the elusive taxi driver, and finding places of interest to visit on the island. If a traveler wants more of a touristy experience, she should stay away from Inish Meian, and An Dun.
