On our visit to Ruairi,s restaurant on Mon the 1/7/13 we were extremely disappointed with the overall dining experience. Two evenings in a row our three year old asked for fried egg and chips and was told there were no eggs. The second evening we asked for the same and were told that the eggs were being kept for breakfast, we then asked for sausages or rashers or beans and told that there were none,it was then suggested by the bar person maybe a half portion of spagetti bolognese. We went with this option, which was served with one of the main courses twenty minutes before the other two after a long wait. One of the party specifically asked for the steak with just onions and it arrived with enough tomatoes to make our own ketchup! and the plate covered in vegetables. The whole experience was very disappointing.I cannot understand if they have food for breakfast for the b&b that they cannot cook an egg for a child. There was no children,s menu available from what we could see,in what we would understand to be a family destination. On Sunday night when asked for sandwiches we were told they were no toasted option available at this time (7pm). Moving on to the drinks: miwadi a jug was €2.50 on Monday night and 2 jugs of it were complimentary on Sunday night!.A request was made to purchase a bottle of wine to take away and we were told that it would cost the same as the restaurant prices.Overall very disappointing and unaccommodating. Advice would be: bring your own eggs & wine!!

Fish pie, Lamb stew, a pint, trad music, or read your book upstairs in the sitting room with a veiw down to the beach. Second time staying in Tigh Ruairi's with Ceoltas Bray. Excellent food, warm rooms, cosy bar and as near to everything as you can be on a tiny Island where the kids have no place to go but the beach, the siopa, the playground, the siopa, the beach, the playground. The simple life, and we're all happy again.

I can still feel that "warm and happy sinking into the chair specialness" when remembering the upstairs gathering room at Roary's -- and looking out at the sea straight in front of us, with views of the island spreading to each side. Our front-of-the-house, corner room was huge and especially comfy. With even better (if possible) views! It had a table alcove from which we could see the whole vista!

The food was fulsome! And delicious. And all home-cooked, of course. And we were only a stairway away from it and the pub, where guests -- mostly Irish -- could be found singing and playing every night. And the adjoining bar where hired musicians come in summertime.. Maybe wintertime, too. I'll have to ask.

Many folks find the islands isolated, and ask what is there to do out there but walk around a bit and see nothing but scenery, and a few antiquities, and you can do all that in a few hours, just like you can so many other places in Ireland, so why wouldn't a quick day trip out and back do just fine? For some, it does. For me, never! To my way of thinking, it takes at least one night, preferably two, before the island "feeling" sinks into your being and captures your heart and makes you want to stay for days/weeks, and return, and return, and return even again. We are hoping to make our 7th trip soon. From America!

If you're looking for a day -- or days -- of wandering, and lounging, and an evening full of good food, and music, surrounded by people who feel the same way, I couldn't recommend Rory's more highly!

Rory's is a spot for all generations: oldsters like us, couples, family, friends and solo's. There are lots of young people there during the summer months. Some families return year after year. We would if we lived in Europe!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two largest room at the front of the hotel. The views are spectacular.
