Bru Radharc na Mara Hostel

The rooms are spacious and spotless, the staff are friendly and helpful (even when their patience is tested - we were there for a stag weekend), the cornflakes and toast are free and plentiful, the view is spectacular and the Guinness in the pub next door is savage.

That's a hell of a lot for €20 per night, in fairness.

Room Tip: The five-bed rooms realistically fit four. The four-beds are grand.

I have just returned from a glorious stay on Inis Óirr where I stayed at this lovely hostel. This was my second time to stay here and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. On this trip I had my great niece with me and on a previous visit I stayed in this hostel with a friend.

The hostel is situated just minutes from the pier which makes it very convenient. Visitors are warmly welcomed by Maura, the owner, a native of beautiful Inis Óirr. She seems to be available day and night...I haven't figured out when she sleeps!!! The hostel is clean and comfortable and very affordable. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room and an extremely comfortable sitting room. Family rooms are also available but I believe these fill up very fast so advance booking is advisable.

From this lovely hostel you can easily explore the beautiful island and fill your lungs with clean fresh air. There are lots of walks...not for the fainthearted as there are some steep climbs!!! Bicycles are also available for hire and of course the ultimate way to see the island, in my humble opinion, is to take a pony and trap ride around the island. I was SO surprised when I went to pay for this trip and was told "children go free". I haven't heard that phrase in a long time.

The beach is clean and safe and a fun place for kids. There is also a lovely playground for kids. Then at night for the adults there is an abundance of wonderful music and kids are welcome too.

To sum up I would say..."Forget 'abroad' and holiday on this lovely little piece of ireland.

Room Tip: Call Maura and discuss your personal needs.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a pilgrimage to Ireland. It was right on the ocean with an amazing view. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were also. There is a small room for relaxing and watching tv and it is right next to a good pub. The location couldn't be better.

Recently stayed here with a large hen party. Basic but Clean rooms, very accommodating staff. So friendly and helpful. Kitchen was very well equipped. Had tea n toast in the morning just what we needed.

Would recommend this hostel while basic it's the staff/family that make this special.. They even came down to the ferry after us with a phone charger which was left behind!!

I have stayed here in Summer '10 and '11, and both times it was fine. The rooms are clean and warm, and the kitchen is well equipped. That's all a hostel is meant to be and it did the job. The staff were grand, both times when we got there we were left standing around for ages as there was no one around to check us in. Other then that it was fine.

Seriously people get over yourselves, who goes to the smallest of the aran islands in search of ultra modern top class accomodation? And if you are why not try the Burj Al Arab for god's sake?

What im trying to say here is that hostels are usually basic and this case is no different. its not "family friendly", suitable for oldies, or snobs, there is B&B's on the island for this market. the hostel provides a cheap bed perfect for a short stay for the lone traveller, group of friends or young couple.

And best of all the hostel is attached to a pub! So if you'd prefer to spend your aran holiday inside fussing over the frills then go elsewhere, but for the hardcore holidaymaker who'd prefer to spend the hardearned cash on a nice irish pint of guinness then Bru Radharc Na Mara Hostel is for you.
