I stayed here for a week last September and if you're looking for some peace & quiet in a gorgeous part of Ireland i would really recommend it. I brought my dog along with me and he had a ball at the nearby beach which was only 5 minutes away. It really did the heart good to be able to start every day with a walk on the beach!! Weather was mixed. ..it's Ireland.. but didn't matter. Did lots of day trips to Clifden, Kylemore Abbey etc. You definitely need a car in this part of the world. House was exactly as i expected and as per photos. A lovely old cottage well updated with everything you need. I would agree with the other reviewer that the only thing i would suggest is more comfy chairs or couch for those nights in enjoying the turf fire and a bit of tv.
The family who own it were next door and really helpful and friendly.
This cottage was cosy but with a huge double bedroom (the chairs in the living room were a bit uncomfortable but that's our only complaint), clean and well equipped. A lovely beach practically on the doorstep, and interesting towns nearby. The owners were generous with the turf they left, homemade scones provided, and even a fishing trip for my husband and son. Very friendly and helpful, there if you needed something but never intrusive.
The owners were ever so helpful right from the very start by guiding us to their beautiful cottage. They even got the fireplace going for us before we arrived because the wheather was quite miserable and all we had to do was sit down and feel comfortable. It always feels very special to us, spending time in such original old houses because it brings you close to the country you are staying in. So we enjoyed our vacation very much by doing a lot of hiking, sightseeing or simply relaxing in front of the fireplace. :-)
Everyone who is seeking some time off his daily routine, refilling ones batteries: this is the place to go!
Best regards from Germany! Oliver&Birgit
The cottage was what I just expected: cosy, nice and comfortable. The pictures showed above tell the truth: It is a pretty place close to the shore, in a peaceful surrounding.
The open fireplace, peat included, gives You the right feeling as well, especially with a dram of whisky ;-D
The region is a dream with just a few tourists around , so it´s not too much crowded. In the village nearby (Carna) You have some shops and pubs for the needs You have. In Clifden You can get everything else You need.
We felt very welcome with the house owners nearby: nice, friendly and helpful people! - Thanks for a very good time!!!
I´d like to come back and can recommend it to everyone who wants a bit of the irish lifestyle ;-D
Not a real "minus point" but to be known is: You need a car, because You are far away from any main roads ( at least in my german understanding of a main road - lol)
