Did not stay here, but visited for dinner and had a great time in this long-established hotel surrounded by glorious views. Very good a friendly service and tasty food. This seemed like a well-run hotel with lots of sporting facilities and a 9- (now 7 due to erosion!) hole golf course.

Beautiful setting ,food very good ,service friendly and professional but first room we were offered for a family if 2 adults and 2 children was very small , so we requested a bigger room ,that it was but curtains dirty, bed and floor boards squeaked non stop ,bathroom old and towels very worn ,unfortunately not value for money

We stayed 2 nights, in the historical old hotel. Service in dining room and bar were excellent. Fabulous location. We were in the newer wing of the hotel, and the rooms are tired and cramped. In terms of value, I'd say the service by the staff in the dining room and bar are excellent, the location is unsurpassed beauty, but I can only rate as average because the rooms need updating. There are cobwebs and dirty window ledges in the new wing, and generally very messy in some of the common areas with very well worn furniture. Patio area also messy with very tired furniture that is unbefitting what it should be like for a property like this. Finally, it was a busy Sunday evening, and we were up early for 8:30am breakfast and the common areas of the main reception area were a mess from the prior evening. Property has a really great family atmosphere which is very nice. We enjoyed our stay. However, the property could really stand a bit of a sprucing up. We would stay again, but I'd think twice at the rate we paid for the room we had. We also did not have a sense of being a valued guest upon checkout.

Was here for the first time. The hotel is an old house with a real old world style about it. Hotel was buzzing with guests - a lot of families with kids. It's a very kid friendly place with lots of activities so if your not into having kids running riot most of the day then avoid. If it don't bother you then it's a great place. Super restaurant, great food including very good breakfast. Rooms are clean but a bit old fashioned - don't expect 5 star comfort!. The staff are all very friendly. The big winner though with this hotel is its location. It is right on the Atlantic Coast and the scenery is stunning. You are also very close to some amazing beaches, drives, Kyle more Abbey and the National park so plenty to do. All in all a great location and even if the hotel is a little "Fawlty Tower s" it only adds to its appeal

As hotels go this was fine but as I found it in the Blue Book I was expecting something smaller, more quaint, quieter. In fact it felt more like a standard hotel so I was a little disappointed but that was down to me, not the hotel itself.
This is very much a hotel that caters for families with small children and as I was trying very much to avoid this I didn't really enjoy it and was very happy to check out.
There's only one disabled room which was already booked and the room I had on the ground floor was quite a distance from the main lobby which meant a lot of walking for me which was difficult as I was on crutches.
Overall though no complaints - just a standard hotel. Nothing special here for me.

Room Tip: A hotel for kids not couples or singles looking for peace and quiet.

We had a most relaxing two days at this hotel, the service and friendliness of staff is second to none. We had a large bedroom overlooking the sea, The food was excellent and romantic walks started right from the front door. We loved it there and really chilled out.

Room Tip: Ask for the presidents room, it is on the ground floor facing the sea, and it has a separate sitting...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Renvyle House is a four star, historic country house, family owned and family run. It first opened as a hotel in 1883 and is spectacularly located on a 150 acre estate on the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way (midway point of the longest car touring route in the world!). Renvyle House is known for it’s “air of otherwordliness” which we believe is a strong and unique selling point and something of which we are very proud. Our emphasis is on customer service “friendly combined with professional” and we believe this plays a large part in why Renvyle enjoys over 55% repeat business. The hotel resort grounds include a private lake, a par 3 golf course, a beach, woodlands, gardens and numerous activities on site including tennis, croquet, outdoor heated swimming pool & Canadia Hot Tub which overlokks the Atlantic (summer months), fly-fishing, canoeing and more. Renvyle House is also well known for it’s good food and this is as much due to the locally sourced fresh produce (lamb, fish, vegetables and herbs from our own garden) as to Tim O’Sullivan’s expertise in the kitchen (Tim is our award winning Executive Chef). Renvyle House always has a warm welcome guaranteed for every guest. ... more   less
