This is a wonderful cottage - restored with so much love and attention to detail. Michael's welcome was lovely with a fire in the open fireplace and scones. Ireland is simply beautiful and the people are so lovely and friendly. The location of the cottage is great for excursions to the Cliffs of Moher or Galway and Connemara.Hope to return again!

Myself, my husband and two kids have just stayed in berties cottage it was a fantastic experience to get to stay in an authentic Irish thatched cottage. Michael the host was most accommodating. The large fire place with turf burning to welcome us the first day. The bus stopped just out side the front door of the cottage. We had a car and drove everywhere but was good to know we had the option to leave the car. It had all the mod cons anyone travelling could need. It's so close to kinvara a beautiful seaside village 5 mins drive. We enjoyed stopping off in clairnbridge nearby also. Overall a fantastic and reasonably priced cottage. Thanks Michael.....
We stayed in Bertie's cottage for 4 nights over Halloween mid term break.
Our purpose was to visit family in the locality and this cottage suited our family of 5 for this short stay.
The Cottage was refurbished by Michael to give you a taste of Auld Eire with Peat for the range fire and plenty of books about the local area. Michael greeted us and made sure we had everything to keep us comfortable.
Good oil heating (essential off season!). Comfy beds. Bedrooms for 4 people (2 double beds - our youngest was on a put up bed, which was grand).
I would certainly recommend this as a base for exploring The West, good location between Clare & Galway city only 20mins drive away.
Beautifully restored thatched cottage, nicely decorated in tribute to a friend, well equipped with everything, some may not like it having road frontage but we found no issue with any noise, well located to tour Clare and Galway counties, great restaurants locally within 5 minutes drive and local pub and servo just down the road.

Bertie's cottage was a perfect holiday retreat, renovated with all the mod cons but has kept its identity we felt very privileged to be able to stay here. The location is excellent, bus to Galway at front door and easy access to Galway, Connemara and the Burren. The local garage/ convenience store was a benefit. The take away next to the garage was very good. The local pub is next door, however Michael told us there was another bar close by- check this out.
Everything was spotless Michael provided a great range of essentials to ensure a good start to our break.
Michael was a very considerate host eg providing wood and turf regularly for the wood burning stove. Loved the whole experience I highly recommend this lovely cottage !!!

I am not a big reviewer normally but this place is just too special not to get a mention and I am writing this whilst sat in the cottage with 2 days still to go.
We booked our stay last minute and travelled down to the wee village from Belfast with my husband, son and teenage niece and I think it is safe to say we have fallen in love with this place already. The pictures only give you a snippet of what you can expect and the owner of the property was friendly, thorough and very helpful.
The cottage although it has many original features also has lots of mod cons to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable. There is decent wi-fi (always a bonus with a teenager) a good sized TV with Sky, a dishwasher, a nice shower and heating that works very well. I have almost looked for a missing utensil etc and can't manage to find one so far. The attention to detail just makes this place a little more special and you can certainly tell the owner was previously a wood worker.
We spent yesterday evening enjoying a drink and BBQ on the decking and in the adorable wee summer house with a water feature running on the side lines. The BBQ is made out of an old Guinness keg, just another little touch that you can find in every nook and cranny.
The location of this cottage is another plus in my opinion, we really enjoy Galway which is only 20-30 minutes away and really the reason we picked to stay here originally. The bus stop for Galway is literally outside of the front door so travelling is easy. Yesterday we visited Kinvara which is just the most adorable little port town about 5 minutes (if that) drive away. There are lovely restaurants, cafes, shops, a supermarket and a castle to be explored but the scenery is what took me by surprise - just stunning. A stones throw away from the cottage itself there is a local pub and off license, always a bonus.
I would highly recommend this wee cottage for a romantic getaway or with a family and will certainly be visiting again if we get the chance. I feel very lucky to have stumbled across this wee gem.
