We spent a few days here in May and loved every minute. The hotel is charming , combining old , atmospheric rooms with new ,bright bedrooms. Our host and hostess were equally charming and the food was excellent. This is in a great spot with lots of lovely walks nearby and towns to visit if the weather is bad.It was a little difficult to find...could do with a few more signs along the way., but well worth the journey.

My sisters and I were in Ireland in April enjoying a long planned vacation. We stayed at Glencar House Hotel for two nights and could not have had a better experience. From the start, Liam and Ailis went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to be as helpful as possible. The rooms were lovely, the meals outstanding and the atmosphere wonderful. I hope to be able to return one day soon!

We arrived on a Friday night to discover we were the only people booked in that night. A bit off putting at first but no need to worry! We were warmly welcomed by Liam and shown to our room which was a good size and very comfortable. He shared with us his local knowledge of places to eat and the next morning we had a lovely breakfast in the dining room. After climbing Carrantouhil on a glorious Saturday, we returned to Glencar House to have a beautiful meal prepared by Eilish. Sitting by the open fire we enjoyed the company of other guests and were well looked after by the owners.A beautiful place, delicious food and a warm welcome. Would recommend this as a base in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Tripadvisor. We are so glad you enjoyed your weekend and that you got to climb Carrauntoohil even with the dreadful weather conditions. We will look forward to your return visit to Glencar. Eilis and Liam

Stayed here with a group in April 2012. We climbed Carrauntuohill on the Saturday in amazing weather. Arrived the Friday night to a cosy fire in the bar, with armchairs gathered around. The hospitality was great from the start. The atmosphere is very laidback, with eclectic furniture and nice touches around the place. It is more like a really good guesthouse than a hotel. Only in the morning did we see the beautiful setting we were in. You would expect to pay boutique hotel prices for a get-away-from-it-all location like this, but the special offer we availed of included two nights B+B, a 3-course dinner, packed lunch for the climb, and a certificate to say we climbed Carrauntuohill, all for €89pp! The hosts are genuine and could not do enough for us. I will return for a romantic getaway in a stunning part of the world, which won't break the bank.
