“A rural retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

I stayed in Round Wood House last week with work coleagues. Paddy and Hannah the owners were very friendly and welcoming. The open fire in the sitting room was just fantastic. At the end of a long day standing at the ploughing championships it was great to relax by the fire. A large trunk of turf and fire wood was available to keep the fire topped up.
The food was excellent and it was no problem to them to prepare gluten free for me. The breakfast at 6 am was a great start to the day.Tables were laid with real china cups and plates.
The rooms were big and comfortable with shutters on the windows. The only little gripe I had was that the hair dryer flex is too short as the socket is far away from the mirror. This problem is common to many hotels in Ireland.
As I was not paying the bill I cannot comment on the value
It was my second time to stay at Round Wood House and I will be back again.

A week in roundwood cottage
It was deep within the woods
Where only the cows were lowing
No tv or other fancy goods

The cottage was welcome and warming
With little room to swing a cat
The peace & solitude overcame you
Better than any city flat.

A week of utter seclusion tucked deep within the wood
My heart and soul replenished
Thanks to the cottage at Roundwood.

We are just back from a weekend in Roundwood House. We arrived late on Friday night and Hannah and Paddy (the owners) could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The fires were lit, the food was ready and the wine list was a very pleasant surprise! It is home from home (if one was lucky enough to own a 300 year old stately home....), so comfortable. We were really made to feel part of the family, but not in an intrusive way. I would definitely remommend and we will definitely be back! Thank you.

Just back from a very rare girls weekend away to Roundwood House. And, what a charming, homely place it was to have such quality time to spend with long-standing friends. Roundwood House - Paddy, Hannah and their children - are just unique. They manage that very fine balance of giving you space to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the place, whilst still being there with warm company, local information tidbits and the most fabulous food, exactly when you need it. We can't wait to return for another recharging of the batteries in the near future!

Really nice place - of all the places we stayed on our two week trip to Ireland this summer, this was the bill we had most pleasure in paying, and the one place we intend to come back to. Everything about it was very tasteful.

Room Tip: We had three rooms in the main house and we all liked them.

It's everything I thought it would be and more. Charming and unique with lots of antiques and picturesque grounds. The dinner was outstanding and was the best meal we had in Ireland. My teenagers loved the meal and our stay. It was a highlight of the trip.

We stayed here twice in May of 2012...it was so good the first few days that we had to come back on our way to Dublin. The house was built by one of my wife's long-lost ancestors and when we found out it was taking guests we made reservations. I can't add much more to the excellent reviews that other have given. Paddy and Hannah are gems, the house comfortable, the grounds splendid, the food excellent in all respects. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Check the rooms out and if there's a choice, go with what strikes you.
