This is an attractive enough b&b from the outside however it could do with decent signage indicating where the car park is.

The larger bedrooms are spectacular however the single room is very small. The bedrooms & bathrooms are spotlessly clean and there are nice toiletries provided.

There was no note of whether there was WiFi available on their website however I did manage to get a connection.

Breakfast was very nice, but the tableware is waaay too fussy! We found all of the food served at brekkie to be delicious except for the porridge which was very salty.

All in all this is a fine b&b except I think for a 5 star it could do wih some improvements. There was no remote control for the TV in either of the rooms we stayed in and it also costs nothing to give a friendly hello on arrival or a smile at breakfast time.

All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others.

Stayed in Portlaoise for two weeks on a business trip. As everywhere was booked i thought i would have to settle for Ivyleigh house. Frankly I was amazed by the previous review.

Ivyleigh is an elegant georgian guest house based in the town close the train station. My room was at the front of the house and street noise was not a problm. Room was spacious, clean, wireless access and the bed was sooo comfortable. There was a wide vareity options the breakfast menu. From homemade granola to your typical full Irish. I would however recommend the baked egg. Very tasty.

Again I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Dinah and Jerry I will be back.

I actually booked a room for four nights with the proprietor of this B&B for four nights in August/September

Ten minutes later the guys wife phoned me back to inform me that she was putting the nightly rate up by 25% and demanding I pay 100% deposit (6 months in advance)!

When I attempted to reason with her she advised me that i was 'not the sort we want at Ivyleigh House'!

I'll be keeping an eye on my credit card bill I think.

So if your idea of a good time is being talked down to by a rude, unprofessional hostess then this is the spot for you. Either that or you could try a another B&B where the word 'hospitality' still has some relevance.

Good Luck!
