“Girls night away.”
Reviewed 14 September 2011

We stayed at the killeshin on Satruday night the 10th September for a girls night away.
This is our second visit here and where as its a nice hotel sorry to say we wont be back.
The rooms are very nice and big and nicely furnished. We did ask for a nice quiet room and were given one on the third floor just over the front door - and as a result got very little sleep as other guests spent a lot of the night outside the door smoking and talking.
We had dinner in the Restaurant which was excellant. The staff and the food was top notch as it was on our last stay. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles - very busy and not a lot of staff with full and dirty tables everywhere. When we did get seated the food was good although we had to wait for some of it to be brought out form the kitchen. Our server was very nice and apologised for the delay and rally was doing her best for us.
Our main reason why we will not be staying again is the Bar and its Staff. Its a long time since we have met such bad mannered and just ''couldnt care less'' type of staff - and this was the case on our last stay also. I see from a lot of other reviews of this hotel this is an on going problem. Management I think you should try and fix it.!!!!! AC on in the bar and we almost froze.

Thank you to Nicola and Diamonti and to all the other staff we found so helpful and efficient on our two trips to the Killeshin.

Room Tip: Not over the front door or over the function room if there is a wedding on.

We have stayed in the Killeshin Hotel before in November for a party and enjoyed the hotel. We were there again for a family event this month, with 7 rooms booked. There was also a wedding on the same day so the hotel was very busy.
In the evening we all decided to get bar food before 7pm whihc was the time for bar food to end, got the menus and decided the split up rather than 30 of us arriving for food at the same time. Some got fed and at 6.10pm some more of us went to order food only to be told by bar staff that the food had ended at 6pm. We pointed out that the menu said 7pm and that no-one had been advised of any time change when collecting the menus from the bar but were just told again that the bar food finished at 6pm because of the wedding, no apologies at all. As we intended to stay in the hotel that night, we all wanted to have some food but didn't want to go the hassle of going to the restaurant.

The gents urinals in the main reception/bar area were also out of order for the whole day & night, which is not very high standard for a four star hotel.

We had also booked a triple room for three people but on checkin found that it was actually a family room, with a double bed and single one, rather than three single beds. In most cases this probably would be grand but we had three teens who didn;t want the double bed. I think it should be stated on internet booking sites that the triple room is actually a family room.
In general, most of the party felt that on this occasion, the hotel/bar did not live up to previous visits.

The hotel is modern & very stylish. Great breakfast in the restaurant & evening meals were superb. Compliments to the chef. Staff were very friendly & helpful. Our trip was actually a coach tour from UK & we were very impressed.
Many thanks for a wonderful stay - hope to go back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms were spacious & clean

We had business in Portlaoise which required to us overnight in the town so we picked The Killeshin as it most suited our needs.

The staff members that we dealt with during our stay were very helpful and cordial. Room was spotless and the bed was nice and comfy. My partner and I really enjoyed the leisure centre.

If we have to be anywhere near Portlaoise in the future, we would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Myself and Caroline had our wedding reception in the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise. From day 1 the management and the staff were excellant. They met us on a number of occassion and went through all the steps in a professional and very friendly manner. On the wedding day I would say that the Killeshin went above and beyond the call of duty on making our special day even more special. If you are getting married then the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise is the only venue you have to look at.

Stayed here for business and it was only alright. The heat in the rooms made the sleep uncomfortable with no air conditioning, others in my conference said the same. Rooms are big but carpets etc were well stained. No wifi in bedrooms, only wired access.
Breakfast is usual fair, buffet and it did the job.
Leisure centre was only fair, pool is small and full of kids, even fast lane had 2 kids splashing around and no one directing them.
If price is good, then fine but don't expect a posh few days staying here.

For conference or function, there was awful noise from the kitchen all the time. All the public area toilets looked uncared for, lots of paper towels left around etc.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere........
