Queen Victoria was a guest of Sir John Leslie and loved it. The conversion over the years has been carefully done. The conversion of the main house was carefully done with wonderful results. The attractions of horse trails for hunt seat riding or just a trek for the novice is through an amazingly diverse landscape of the estate. If you are a horse persons don't miss this! Check the range of prices and availability and reserve in advance, it is on the upper end of the price spectrum. The Hunt Lodge is nicely renovated and a bit lower price than the main house.

Room Tip: Many options check ahead.

Stayed with my wife in double room in the main castle. All staff that we met throughout our stay were friendly and courteous. The Castle itself is obviously old so don't be expecting a modern luxurious foyer, room, etc. The building is relatively well maintained and clean throughout. Quite a climb up to our room on the second floor - no lifts but we were offered assistance with our luggage. Our room (Shane's room) was large with two windows and a beautiful view of the lake, a large bath to the side, hand basin & wc in small cupboard type rooms either side of the bath. There was only a small wardrobe, the bed was very comfortable and there were coffee/tea facilities. No televisions in any of the rooms in the castle.

We were free to wander throughout the various public rooms and the well kept grounds. Breakfast was served in the castle dining room and whilst it was not the best, it was perfectly adequate and very well presented. Dinner was served in the gate lodge and we opted for the restaurant, as opposed to the bar - a wonderful 5 course meal.

There is a great equestrian centre and after a walk through the hotel grounds in the morning we enjoyed a horse ride through the woods - reasonably priced at €35 per person (the hotel provided a €25 discount voucher off this price).

Generally we had a great time and I would highly recommend the hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the lake.

I stayed here for 2 nights on an equestrian break with my granddaughter
We both loved the estate and really enjoyed the horse rides around the grounds. The food was excellent more like a top class restaurant than hotel food. Will definitely be back.

We stayed in the lodge, but visited the castle and availed of a few drinks in the castle bar. The room was fabulous; huge bed, sofa and skylight window with a mechanical blind. The bathroom was huge with an antique style bath and separate shower. Dinner in the lodge was lovely, particularly starters and desserts. Breakfast was perfect. I loved it here, can't wait to go back!

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband for his 40th birthday and we couldn't of asked for a better break away! We stayed in the Lodge and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was fab! Overlooked the stables and you wouldn't know it. No horse smell or anything, spotlessly clean. Will defiantly return again! Thank you'
