“IWG Seminar Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

My wife and I had stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa in Sligo, Ireland quite a few years ago and had enjoyed our stay. This visit was to attend the Irish Woodturners Guild (IWG) Annual Seminar for the weekend at the end of September 2013 and we had also booked three extra days to give us the opportunity to visit the local sights. The hotel ia a couple of miles outside the town of Sligo but it you have your car with you this is not a problem. The accommodation was first class especially as our extra days stay resulted in a room upgrade. This was very well appointed with a lovely bathroom and great view of the Sligo Bay from our window. The quality of the food was superb during our extra days stay and the Seminar food and facilities were 5 star. And the buffet breakfast - what can I say! Probably one of the best you will get in any hotel. My wife and I made use of the swimming pool and spa facilitie and are looking forward to our next visit. (Hoping we might get an upgrade again next year!!).
Terence & Ann Aston

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a nice view of Sligo Bay.

We recently decided to return to the Radisson Blu in Sligo. Having had a disappointing stay there last February, I was very interested to see if there had been any changes made and was delighted to see that there has. There was a lovely warm atmosphere on arrival and a very pleasant checking in experience Our room was spotlessly clean with all the lovely amenities you would expect at this standard.

What has really improved though,in my opinion,is the dining experience. We had a very tasty dinner in the hotel restaurant, there was great choice on the menu and lovely freshly baked bread with an accompaniment of onion relish to keep us going til our food arrived. What struck me was the atmosphere, it was relaxed and enjoyable , nice music in the background and a very pleasant smiling staff throughout the service, the very opposite to what we had experienced on our last stay! This experience was repeated at breakfast the following two mornings where there was an excellent selection of choice of fresh and hot food.

We availed of the use of the thermal suite and swimming pool this time around, I was sorry I had not booked a treatment in advance as the Elemis Spa is beautiful and they have very good special offers every month.

Upon our last visit the hotel looked tired and worn along the accommodation corridors, all of this has been remedied and apparently many of the rooms have been freshened up. The Radisson Blu has a loyal staff who are working hard to ensure the hotel meets the standards you would expect at this level. I was unsure if the 3 hour drive would be worth it but I'm delighted to say it was and I would now consider returning next summer and bringing the kids!

I stayed here 17th&18th Nov. A a a single traveller usaully assigned a room over the kitchen or beside the lift shaft it was lovely that the receptioist Maria responded to my requqest for a quiet room and gave me a lovely room with a sea view. The room was large well appointed and very comfortable. The staff were freindly and helpful My only gripe would be the perpetual world football in the bar area. Not even the 6 or 9 o'clock news for the mainly older people who seemed to be the main guests. However this hotel ticks all the boxes for me.

Room Tip: Talk to reception in advance. it certainly worked for me.Got a really superior room with wonderful v...

Myself and a few friends stayed here over the October long weekend. It's in a nice location just outside the town and only a few minutes in by car. Rooms are basic and TV is a bit small. They're skimpy on the shower gel and shampoo. We were there 3 days and only got a refill on the third day. Saying that the views are spectacular and the sea breeze is refreshing. Internet connectivity is patchy and we were struggling to connect on either the Tablets or the Phones, saying that its excellent in reception. The leisure centre is very good but don't forget to bring a swimcap otherwise it's €2. We wanted to use it on Bank Holiday Monday but it doesn't open till an hour later on Bank holidays. The breakfast is excellent and very tasty with a great range for everyone and the staff are very helpful. The old thing is the definition of crispy bacon must differ in Sligo, more like just cooked. We all agreed we'd come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for somewhere away from the Ballroom. Then you can't hear the functions going on till late...

This is a large fairly modern hotel with sea views about two miles from Sligo town. It has a well equipped gym and pool. Several minor niggles combine to make me think it's rating is too high. For example there are no face cloths in the bathroom, the mini bar was empty, the tv is very old with a very limited number of channels and check in was very slow - one receptionist with a 6 person queue

Stayed here for 4 nights For a conference. The hotel is in a lovely location, about 7 minutes from Sligo town itself. The front of the hotel is shaped as a lovely manor house sort dwelling and the views are breathtaking. When we went to check in, as we were staying 4 nights we expected to be accommodated in a front facing room however this was not the case. We spoke to the receptionist who advised us the front rooms were a lot smaller and most with one bed. As two girls for 4 nights we stayed with the larger room. We didn't leave the hotel due to the conference, so we used the bar and restaurant most evenings. Bar staff are just amazing! Full of chat and banter. Bar food is lovely, recommend the fish pie and bacon and cabbage. We also ordered room service one evening which arrived in record time, was lovely and hot and not overpriced. The rooms are lovely, however no wifi only wired. They do however provide an ice bucket, bottle opener, wine glasses and a fridge! Amazing for us ladies who like a glass of wine or two! This hotel is great, lovely location, great staff and a nice atmosphere. Will be back

I stayed in the hotel for a conference last weekend, and I have to say that I was extremely impressed by the hotel. The staff were absolutely outstanding, without exception. From the front desk staff, to the cleaning staff, the bar/restaurant staff etc., they were not only extremely efficient and able to deal with any request, but were also genuinely friendly and helpful. It made such a difference to the stay.

Having attended this conference every year for the past seven years, I can easily say that this hotel was the best able to cater for a conference, despite how busy they must have been. It was never obvious that they were busy, and they were calm, friendly and polite at every interaction, even when a sing-song went late into the night. They asked us to move from the bar, so as not to disrupt sleeping guests, but they provided another room for us to continue on!

The views of the bay from the front of the hotel, the restaurant and some other rooms were absolutely stunning.

The breakfast was really good, with a particularly good fresh fruit salad, as well as having slim, low fat and soy milk easily available at the buffet, which I loved. Lots of cereals, hot fried food and cheese/cold meats were also available, as well as the very good double espresso I was provided with on request.

The triple room (two single beds and a pull out couch) was a good size and the bathroom had two sinks, a shower and a bath with a shower head in it. There is also an empty mini-bar (which you can have filled on request), which is handy for your own items if you have special dietary needs. There is an ice bucket, and you can fill it from the ice machines beside the lift (elevator) as well as a buffer machine to shine your shoes.

The wifi is easy to use, and you don't have to sign in again every single time you use it, and you just need your room number and surname it's under, so no clumsy passwords.

There is easy to use aircon/heating in every room, but the windows open as well if you want fresh air. There was lots of wardrobe space and surfaces in the room to use, as well as a safe.
