I recently spent 2 nights in Richmond House and really enjoyed the B/B part, great breakfast and big rooms but could do with a bit more heating. We decided to eat our evening meal there also for convenience sake. We were very disappointed with the food, as a matter of fact I could not believe my steak could be so burned and still find it hard to beleive a chief grilled it, veg appeared to be left over from the night before. As for the lady who served us the wine, we believed she was on commission, so much so, when she filled 4 glasses with wine there was none left for person who tasted the wine. She should be thought how to pour and serve wine. I find it so off putting when a wine glass is almost filled to the top.

Had an overnight stay with evening meal in April. Although the weather wasn't great, it was to our advantage as we read papers & relaxed over coffee & guinness cake beside the cosy fireplace. We were recommended Richmond Hse for the food and we were not disappointed. The menu is generous ( nice to see more than token fish dish) in it's variety and the emphasis is on good quality food, well presented. The dinner was very good quality and we were very pleased with the food and the staff were politely efficient in their service. Breakfast , in as much we could savour more food, was also very good with lovely selection of fresh fruit and fresh juices.
Rooms are full of charm and really appreciated the nice touch of closing the shutters and heating the bed for us.
If you want tranquility, pleasant surroundings and lovely food then put this on your list.

I recently dined in Richmond House with three others. I have dined there previously and have been fairly satisfied but I was very disappointed with the quality of the food on this occasion. The steak was very fatty and, as a result, it was very difficult to eat. The meal was quite tasty but overall we felt it was very bad value for money. If you charge high prices, the quality must be excellent. The service however was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your meal at Richmond House.
We are so disappointed that your steak was fatty and not enjoyable. We get all our beef and lamb from our local butcher and we normally get great compliments on its quality . As you are a previous customer we hope this hasnt put you off our restaurant and we hope we will see you again in the future

We (couple) stayed here recently, on a short-notice 1-night dinner+B&B break, and really wondered could this hotel be as good as people have made out. It's lovely.

We arrived about 6, and after making our way in were shown up to our room to relax and get ready for dinner. The room was huge, decorated as it might have been 100+ years ago, my favourite type of place. Bathroom was big. The tv had only the Irish stations, but we werent there to watch the tv and switched on the radio instead.

Dinner was fantastic. A starter of ham hock terrine was followed by a rhubarb sorbet, readying us for perhaps the tastiest steak dinner I've ever had. One of the side servings was a sensational red cabbage - I dont like red cabbage, but I LOVED whatever they did to it. Dessert was outrageously good, and the wine (from the cheaper end of the winelist) was beautiful. Coffee and petit fours followed, and then drinks in a comfy lounge. There are I think very few bedrooms, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves - perfect.

The sleep quality was fantastic. Shutters and heavy curtains kept the light out until we were ready to rise, and then down to a delicious breakfast.

We were talking about the food all the way home, and will be back.

But this is NOT a place for families, NOT a place for a stag night, NOT a place for leisure centre and hot-tub holidays. If you want old-style hospitality and romance with food that you'll rave about, then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: There arent many bedrooms, and no late-night noise to worry about. I doubt it matters which room you have.

Just back from a one night stay with 3 children under 4 at Richmond House.Every effort was made to facilitate our children at meal times, despite staff being very busy on Valentines evening.Meals of our choice were cooked to order for the boys!We couldn't t have asked for any more from the staff. The dinner was one of the best we have had out in a long time.Accomadation is reflective of staying in a period house, warm, comfortable with antique filled rooms.
