This small inn is located in a renovated defensive coastal station which was built by the British army in the 19th century. The location on the water is very pretty and quiet, and the rooms are beautifully decorated and clean. The cooked-to-order breakfast was excellent, but the dinner was expensive and the food indifferent. Unfortunately, there are no other dining options nearby, and Ballyvaughn is a desperate little town with little to recommend it. Overall, this isn't the best option among Ireland's many excellent country hotels.
