“Room to improve”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2012

Our room was unfortunately not ready when we checked in (they say rooms are cleaned between 10am – 2pm and we arrived at 1pm) but we had specifically been booked in as part of a wedding party with a coach collecting us at 130pm. When we mentioned this, our room was made ready in 10 minutes, although they did forget towels. We can forgive them this, as they were obviously in a rush to prepare the room for us and some were brought up a few minutes later. There is plenty of parking at this hotel, which also has its own tennis court and a pool (we didn’t have time to use these though). The reception area is bright and modern, which is a contrast to the outside of the hotel, which does look a little like a nursing home...

We stayed in room 36, upstairs, which looks out to the car park, tennis court, pool and nearby fields. The room was satisfactory, but did not live up to the Beachcombers’ name, with no beach theme carried through as the decor is tired and standard. However, the breakfast room has pieces of driftwood as decoration and it would be nice if these little touches could be extended to the rooms. The bathroom was even more tired looking than the bedroom and the taps etc really let down the look of the room. The shower was also tiresome, with hardly any water pressure and a battle between hot and cold water, that is, when it wasn’t coming out of the scruffy looking bath taps. I understand renovation is in progress.

The only meal we experienced was breakfast which again, was standard, although they forgot to bring us the tea we ordered, which, considering the amount of staff on hand was a bit poor but we couldn’t be bothered to make a fuss. Also, check-out is supposed to be at 10am, which is also when breakfast ends – not quite sure how this works!

All in all, it was fine for one night, but I wouldn’t rebook for a longer stay. The hotel is described as “boutique” but this is not a word I would use to describe it until more improvements are made. That said, I did leave a piece of jewellery behind, which was returned to me when I popped back later after checking out, so at least the staff are honest!

As Jersey locals this was a short break for us and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. We made good use of the pool and had a very relaxing afternoon on very comfortable sun loungers. The evening meal was excellent, the drink prices were reasonable and the staff were very friendly and courteous. We had a top floor room and as the weather was very hot that day we did find the room very warm but as it was little outside noise we could leave the window wide open without being disturbed. There was a good choice of food available at breakfast. Our only criticism would be that the shower wasn't very powerful but there was plenty of hot water. Overall we had a nice break and would certainly return.

Room Tip: In the summer months ask for a ground floor room as they have an outside area to be able to sit outs...

Beachcombers is a great little hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the place itself was spotless and a really good location for our stop, we could easily walk to the beach (15 mins) and Gorey (25 mins walk) was a picturesque harbour with a good array of eateries. St Helier as a 10 min car ride so all in all definitely somewhere we would stop at again. Breakfast was super with a good choice of food although I would have appreciated some fresh fruit but apart from that it could not have been better.

On discussion with some other guests it was clear that we had a newly refurbished room, I think the hotel are in the process of completing all of the rooms up to the standard of ours. The price of our stay was very reasonable when compared to some of the other accomodation available in Jersey, dont be fooled by the lower price as the quality was top notch.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished one!

stayed for one night with dinner & breakfast.
the room was ok. the food was delicious and the staff were friendly.
it was only spoilt by smokers leaving the doors open and yelling at each other in the small hours of the morning, but this is out of the hotels contol so can't really complain!

Nice hotel with rooms with good space. Warm outside swimming pool. Good restaurant. There are many restaurants near Gorey Harbour, at the steps of Mont Orgueil Castle(Gorey Castle). You can take buses 1 or 2 to go downtown.

Well, what can I say , we had a fabulous stay here , gorgeous medium sized hotel , fabulous pool side area .staff are friendly and sooooo helpful.
Really nice to be spoken to and not treated like AN other , food in restaurant was excellent , good choice of 3 starters , main courses plus specials like lobster .
Breakfast substantial , good buffet table with a choice of juices , cereals , jersey yoghurt, and fruit. Then great English breakfast choice , eggs , bacon , mushrooms .
Room clean , loads of hot water , satellite tv and wifi .
Really would like to keep it a secret as will be visiting again , but this was true value for money .
We got more than we paid for .
Anna and her collegues all very professional and wanted to genuinely give great service .......which they did thank you xxx
