Just arrived back from a weeks break in Jersey and stayed at the Bon Viveur Guest House, the location is perfect, the host and staff excellent, the room is clean and what you would expect for a 3 star Guest House. There are many restaurants within walking distance and the food at the Bon Viveur is also very good with a filling breakfast to see you through the day. We will be back!!!!

Room Tip: Room 2 is overlooking the harbour with two windows which makes it bright.

We went here for a meal which was nice when we visited Jersey last time. So we thought that we would stay at the guest house this time. A very expensive mistake It is overprice for what it is. The only good thing is the break fast which were good. I had to go and buy a quilt to sleep on as bed was so uncomfy. The room was well overdue for a refurb I will never stay there again. The tiny sitting room was clastaphobic it wa so tiny with uncomfortable settees and chairs. It needed a good clean and redecoration. The rooms do not reflect the resturant. What was alarming there was a down stairs toilet that was used by the waiters there was never no soap or towels in. This place needs a really good clean and a refurb with some decent beds and bedding, especially the prices they charge for the room. It was a while ago I stayed but unless they have spent major moneys and refitted rooms out I would not recommend it. What a disappointment. I hope they now have soap and towels in the toilets.

I have just had a lovely lunch, having been a customer for a while now.The food was fantastic, service excellent in fact they couldn't help you enough. The owner has had the same staff for a few years so he must be doing something right.
i cannot understand how there has been some quite negative comments as i have already said never had one yet. If you like a lovely location and good wholesome food i have no hesitation in recommended this place.

This guest house stands in the middle of a charming and busy harbour place that is thronging with tourists in the high season. The owners are running a guest house, restaurant and snack cafe all within one small building and they are open from early morning to late in the evening. The place is buzzing with activity of locals and tourists alike and will not suit those who want to get away from it all. Having said that the views from the sea view bedrooms are much better than the posh hotels up the road and at no time was our sleep disturbed by inappropriate noise.

It is true that the rooms could be larger, the reception space is tiny and the staircase to the bedrooms needs careful attention if you've had one too many or are more than average height. We also found the pillows uncomfortable so popped into the Jersey M&S and bought two 'value' pillows for £15.

The breakfast experience is waiter service for everything but we were quite happy. We tried the evening meal but with so many locals (many of whom were known to the proprietor) clamouring to grab the tables we felt it was too busy for our liking and tried each of the other restaurants within 100 metres, all of which were satisfactory (but not outstanding).

Being in the centre of this extremely attractive part of Jersey car parking is difficult but not impossible. We were able to park when we were unloading/loading our luggage.

Overall this accommodation is a good find if you are looking for a stunning location and wish to soak up the atmosphere of a near continental location. The prices charged reflect the quality offered and potential guests need to remember that if and when they come across an aspect of service that is outside their comfort zone. A short survey of prices elsewhere in the harbour indicated that Bon Viveur certainly offers good value for money.

We shall be returning this summer complete with two pillows and will use the money we save to buy a meal at the posh hotel up the road!

This guest house could be really good as the location is brilliant and the view is great. However, it left a lot to be desired. Compared to some of the other accommodation on Jersey it was relatively cheap, but you do get what you pay for. The rooms are small, but that wasn't the main problem, having driven from south Wales at 4am to catch a ferry that took 5 1/2 hours due to bad weather we were looking forward to a warm welcome and a nice cup of tea. unfortunately we got neither. The manager who greeted us was quite rude and there are no tea making facilities in the room. It would be a really good investment if they provided this as it really does make a difference, especially as you are unable to even pay for a cup of tea apart from between 7-8am!
The guest house is in desperate need of a revamp and our room was quite dirty (I even found a wine gum from a previous guest next to the bed on arrival). We luckily brought our own towels as the ones provided did have a really musty smell to them.
The breakfast was quite amusing, it seems quite dated to only allow a certain number of items for a cooked breakfast and also no freedom to help yourself to cereal or juice. Instead a waiter would serve you everything and you felt awkward asking for any extra. One morning I asked for some extra toast and got one additional piece. Also, they are far too keen to clear your table as you are eating. If you put your knife and fork down for a split second they would whip them away from you, it became really annoying.
This guest house could be great and if they spent a bit of money and time doing some basic improvements it cold be really nice. Unfortunately I don't think they are likely to do this and I would not recommend staying here unless you are happy to rough it.

Room Tip: Should pay a bit extra for a room at the front, although I'd recommend finding another hotel.

Stayed a week at Bon Viveur 16th to 23rd September 2012 in room 10 a sea view room on the top floor at the front of the guest house.. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews about Bon Viveur, comments such as-tiny room, barely room to swing a cat,the ensuite the size of a toilet, so little space to move around the room, food ok but nothing special, sea view rooms hear conversation and smoke from diners outside, small dark corridors, Manager arrogant etc etc
WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH !! Some of these people must live in mansions, Ensuite to small? Perhaps they need to lose weight !! Small dark corridors? Are they too helpless to switch on a light?. The problem with these so called reviewers is they want 5 star hotel accommodation but do not want to pay for it so they choose a three star guest house and then expect 5 star rooms. Complaint about breakfast not being able to have more than four items, this also included as much toast as you wanted. I have a very healthy appetite and the breakfast was more than adequate. Greed springs to mind. This guest house is the best we have ever experienced for food and service and we have travelled extensively. The restaurant was full every evening while we were there not only with guests but locals from all over the island. Why would local people dine here if the food was ok but nothing special. As for the manager being arrogant, all the staff from the manager to the waiters were very professional smart and friendly. We have asked the manager to forward the tariff for 2013 as we will definitely be returning. We chose to have half board which was excellent value, good choice of starter, main and sweet. The one thing I feel they could improve is the bedding having duvets instead of blankets they were rather dated.
We had plenty of space in our room, we had two chairs, dressing table and stool a large wardrobe,a small table with shelf, two bedside cabinets, tv, hairdryer shaver point and plenty of room to walk around the bed, no stubbed toes as one person said.
