“Relaxation with elegance”
Reviewed 31 May 2011

After a major refurbishment, this elegant hotel still retains an air of comfort and luxury. The rooms come complete with fresh fruit and full 24 hour room service. The view from our balcony across the bay was staggering and the staff were extremely attentive to our every whim. (Not that we had many!)

A relaxing experience with that special touch of elegance that is often missing in similar hotels today. Would recommend this hotel most highly.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view.

We stayed here for a few nights in September. The location is perfect and the hotel faces one of the lovliest beaches you will find anywhere. We arrived just in time for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. I had roast beef and my wife had a spectacular seafood platter which she says is the best she has ever had. The hotel is a bit 1970s in places and the rooms, whilst adequate, need an update. Breakfasts were good and the hotel is near to some great restaurants. Car hire is cheap and essential if you want to explore the island.

I understand that the hotel is being completely renovated in 2011 and will be closed for many months which is sad as we hoped to return quite quickly, and we look forwrad to returning to this gem.

We stayed here for a weekend break. I was having trouble finding a hotel and ended up googling and using a hotel site to book and got a very good deal saving nearly 30%. Room was excellent, having just been renovated. Restaurant was a bit formal but food was good and the service couldn't be faulted. Lovely view from the restaurant across St Brelades Bay. Its right by the beach, has lovely grounds and coastal walks are from the front door
We'll definitely be going back again.

I have been coming to this Hotel for Many years with my parents and now with my own family. We were glad to see that the new owners are making changes. I cannot fault the Restaurant Manager and his Staff, they are very efficient and professional. I still think the Restaurant needs to be updated and a little more relaxed. Although children's early tea may work for some families We like to eat together as a family in the evening. Our young daughter is very well behaved and ate with us each evening. However there wasn't a children's menu or smaller portions. We ate out a few evenings at the Oyster Box and Beach House. They both served excellent food and the atmosphere was much more relaxed. The Hotel would benefit from having a restaurent like this open all day so that adults and children can eat together. Flexible eating is what the Hotel currently lacks causing many residents to eat elsewhere. The house kepping standards are very good the Moring and evening service was very good. However there did not seem to be anyone cleaning the tables around the pool. The Reception Staff let the Hotel down a bit. The Porters were more knowledgeable, more helpful and had more common sense. For example it was pot luck what Newspaper you got each day. I agree with one other review that there is no sign of anyone Managing the Hotel. The hotel grounds are excellent and the public lounges. Glad to see the rooms are being updated, Bar needs updating. Elizabet in the bar was very good. She was very efficient and experienced. Bar prices were a little high, I live iin London and they exceeded West End prices. If prices were a little lower it might encourage more residents to drink in the Bar. We found it too quiet, lacked any atmosphere. Overall the hotel is still very good and I think the new owners have great plans to bring it up to the 21st Century. Looking forward to see some long awaited changes.

Just arrived back from a week at St Brelade's bay Hotel. How you find this hotel will really depend on the type of stay you want.....
Glad I booked a balcony sea-view room- its the best beach I have ever seen. We booked through Laterooms and booked the best room available but having looked at the glossy pictures on the hotel website we were a little disappointed that we had one of the older rooms not the recently refurbished ones. Our balcony had no flowers, just other people's bathroom drainage pipes running beside(!) - I wasn't bothered about the flowers but everytime the hotel switched on its watering system our balcony got drenched. Although the cleaning was of a good standard, the lady had a habit of letting herself in before we had chance to answer her knock....breakfast is 8 till 10 so why she wanted to clean the room at 8.45 I dont know.....on holiday we like a slight lie in! At night the turn down service also let themselves in before we had even gone out....7.15pm is not bedtime!! Personally we can manage our own sheets and blanket (no duvet!!!) but some people like the service. Warning- if you have one of the older rooms the shower screen over the bath leaks all over the bathroom floor. Everything else about the room was fine- just a bit dated....apparently all the rooms are being renovated for next season. We found the waiter service breafast far too formal and stuffy and it made us uncomfortable. Apart from seriuosly undercooked poached egg, the rest was delicious. The head waiter was very condesending- despite having been placed at 3 different tables he told us if it was not our first day we should know where to sit as people keep the same table- then promptly placed us at another! Avoid table 55- the waiters race past with huge trays as it is positioned at the kitchen entrance and you have to lean in each time they go past. We never ate there in the evening as we could not face the strict formality of it all. The Tree House and Beach House were nice, as was the Sugar Reef and the Golden Sands (rival hotel) I have to say the staff at the Golden Sands were attentive and friendly, offering a high level of service but with a warm welcome which helped us to relax. If you like to eat late, try the Pizza Express (marvellous views!)but dont expect a table before 9pm unless you eat mid afternoon- only large parties can book tables sadly. Beware- most restaurants last orders are 8.30pm. St Breade's Bay Hotel bar prices are quite high (£11.70 for a lager and a glass of wine). Beware when checking out- check the bill- they tried to charge £162 for things we hadn't had- these were quickly removed from the bill. Airport taxi only £7.40 and really quick. Elizabeth Castle over the causeway at St Helier- good but don't plan on using its tea rooms as it had sold out of lunch items before 12.45!! Use the cafe on the pier before you leave. Corbiere lighthouse walk great- cafe restaurant up there. We walked there then bused it back. Have a look at the Grand design house while you are there. Another great walk- along the bay to the Beach House /Smugglers inn then up the road, left and along towards Portlett bay- keep going past houses to find the nature reserve. It looks poor from the car park but stick with it- it opens out onto secluded clifftop paths with STUNNING scenery and views back to St Brelade's Bay. Durrell zoo is worth the trip- clean, good facilities and excellent enclosures for the animals.
We had a walk through the gardens but apart from one hot day, the weather wasn't warm enough for us to go into the pool. By far the best feature of the Hotel is the location - it is a stunning beach and bay, with wonderful views.

Just returned from the St Brelades Bay Hotel and some major changes, some good, some not so good, and hopefully more changes in store. The newly decorated rooms are a vast improvement and were long overdue. The plans for indoor pool & spa are great and looking forward to that being in place, again long overdue. The new outdoor pool is not a patch on the previous pool and looks sparse in the beautiful gardens. The change from the kids pool to a sand pit is a great loss. However the most ridiculous thing is still in place - and it drives me mad ! I wear a suit 50 weeks of the year and do not want to wear a suit on holiday! Even if I did, I could not eat in the hotel with my 11 year old son, unless room service, as there is an age limit on entrance to the restaurant, it is crazy and so outdated. In fact on a visit to the nearest Italian restaurant there were 7 tables occupied by guests of the hotel. How you can let customers go elsewhere and spend their money elsewhere, it is unbelievable, especially when the food in the hotel is so good. Having had a short discussion with the new owner, I am sure this ridiculous situation will change and hope it does so quickly, this is the 21st century after all. I am sure there will plenty of elderly regulars who think these changes would be the end of the world, but they are not the future for the hotel. Loved it though and have loved it for 30 years, and hope that the new owners will drag the hotel into the modern world.

This was definitely the best choice of hotel on the island for us. We were looking for somewhere quiet, in a nice location, but with easy access to public transport and suitable for disabled. This hotel is a short walk to the beach, a couple of shops and bars and the local bus that goes direct to St Helier. There is also a free car park. The hotel has been renovated and we stayed in a refurbished room which was booked as a garden view but as we were on the end we also had a side view of the sea and swimming pool which has been upgraded to a larger size. The grounds were beautiful with plenty of room, unlike many hotels on the island. The meals were great, no buffet breakfast but there was still plenty of choice. We miss the evening meals already which were 5 courses, with plenty of choice, plus coffee. We found the staff were friendly and professional. Not many negatives - no indoor pool and no evening entertainment which we didn't miss at all. A lovely relaxing holiday.
