“Expensive but worth it”
Reviewed 1 August 2012

We had booked a sea view double with balcony, at £284 B&B per night, for a stay of 5 nights.
After a quick transfer from the airport (5 minutes by taxi, £8/9) we were efficiently checked in and portered to our room. There is a road between the hotel and the sea, so expect some road noise.
The bedroom was spacious, very comfortable double bed, 2 relaxing easy chairs, ceiling fan and delightful view over the bay. A safe was available (no charge), coffee-tea making facilities and a Freeview TV ( hint here - if you find the remote control not working, turn off the ceiling light above the TV ! - must interfere with the remote control signal).
The bathroom was compact but OK - powerful shower over the bath with L'occitaine toiletries.
The buffet breafast was fine - choice of juice/cereals/fruit/fry-up, with others (kippers, porridge etc) available from the kitchen. The only problem was that the restaurant is crammed with tables/chairs and when people/waiters are moving round there is congestion.
The service both at breakfast and dinner is quite formal, with liveried waiters etc - but not as formal as The Atlantic.
We had dinner at the hotel on 2 nights and the choice, service, quality and value for money was good, with 2 courses costing only £25 with an option to go for 6 !
We dined locally on the other nights and the hotel is well situated to let you explore other dining options,
Outside the hotel has extensive, terraced and beautiful grounds. Window boxes are everywhere.
The gardens are well maintained with plenty of sunbeds, matresses and towels available (some of the most comfortable we've had).
Good pool bar with snack menu also available.

Room Tip: Sea view certainly worth the extra - we did not find the road nose a problem.

Apart from a minor misunderstanding, about which the hotel behaved impeccably, we had a very good stay at this hotel having booked 2 rooms for a family of two adults and two toddlers. Even the breakfast, rather indifferently reviewed elsewhere, turned out to be perfectly adequate, and in certain respects very good. There's something delightfully suggestive of PG Wodehouse in this place: perhaps it's the panelled dining room and corridors together with the eccentric clientele. In any case, it's a formula that worked for us. The rooms were of reasonable size and the hotel was airy and well located near several fish restaurants. Service was usually efficient and often cheerful.

Initial problem with the booking made on the web site - I would suggest people book directly with the hotel. Sorted out after much pressure from myself but it was sorted!
My parents thoroughly enjoyed this vacation, the restaurant staff were superb and very attentive
The spa complex very well equipped
Superb housekeeping staff too
Good family hotel with people returning annually
Location superb

Stayed here for 2 days - wish it could have been more. Can't be many hotels in these islands with a view like this. Hotel looks directly over the bay, beautiful sand and sea. Paradise. We had a spacious family room with more wardrobe space than I'd ever seen. First floor room with balcony so the views from there were superb and only down point was the noise from the bar/disco underneath on the Saturday night. Friends had room higher up and said view was even better. Restaurant was formal -but it's nice to get dressed smart - and age group was wide including children. Pianist I believe was in his 90s and he tinkled the ivories playing a wide repertoire during the evening meal and Sunday lunch. Very nice . Our daughter loved the outdoor pools and made friends with the other children there while we basked in the sunshine around the pool or in the grassy areas. Seemed to be sufficient loungers and chairs. Also made use of the pool restaurant which served very nice lunches and snacks.
Yes, a very expensive break - but sometimes it's worth it.

Room Tip: Sea view a must - but try for a higher floor to avoid being right above the bar or front door.

The hotel was quite frankly a huge disappointment. Started with the price of the room. Advertised on laterooms at £70 less than the website. When I called to see if they would honour it - a sullen sounding Eastern European woman said no - book it via laterooms. This I did - but found it had already pre-disposed me to dislike the place.

It is a lovely building with lovely views - but creaky floors and acres of cheap carpetting in the corridors. The room itself was adequate - but not worth £180 (or the £250 on the website).

Clientele was old, and very smartly dressed - not quite what I was expecting for a beach hotel.

Breakfast was a revelation. Arrive to a Maitre D' in full dinner jacket. Lots of waiters in white jackets and all of this for a self service breakfast? Don't quite get it.

Wouldn't return at this price - at half the price - maybe.

Only positive (other than the view) was the couple at the bar (He was playing sax, she was playing guitar).

Room Tip: Check prices on laterooms and avoid being ripped off!

My wife and I came back thoroughly refreshed after our long weekend in the St Brelades Bay Hotel. We would suggest paying the supplement to have a room with a balcony, there really just arent many better views to wake up to in the world! You have a choice of the sea, two swimming pools and a gym to keep you occupied, or you can relax in the beautiful gardens and soak up the sun. I have stayed in a few hotels in Jersey and this is by far the best for value and quality. Well done to all the staff and keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Sea view with balcony is a must, only a small supplement.
