I have holidayed at the Biarritz Hotel regularly over the last ten years, the first few times with family, and more recently travelling solo. Not that that matters. Each time, from he second I have walked into the hotel I have always been made to feel really welcome. One of the first things to check out is what has changed. Every year something has been refurbished, either the reception area, or one of the lounges, and always some of the rooms, so everything always looks fresh. From time to time I have to work away from home and I never like it. The hotels are always impersonal, but not this one. All the staff are so friendly, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Last year I had a question about buses that couldn't easily be answered, and one of the staff said not to worry, if I could hang on for a few minutes, when her shift ended she would give me a lift on her way into St Helier.

Everything I would want to say has already been said in other reviews - comfortable rooms, great views, marvellous food. Ah yes, the food. If you want Sunday Lunch you have to book it in advance. There are always islanders who will snap up any spare seats, and even holiday makers who are staying elsewhere on the island. After the evening meal I like to move onto the patio to watch the sun setting over the far end of the bay, which seems a perfect end to the day.

Something that happened when I was at the Biarritz about three years ago sums it up. We walked into the dining room and one of the dining room staff we had come to know over several vists saw us, smiled, and said "Welcome home".

My wife and I have been going to this Hotel since the 80's and have experienced many changes since then, both in Management and staff but always it has been so enjoyable for us that we have returned almost every year. We have met many new people through sharing a table over the years and can now say that our Christmas list has increased considerably with people we now consider friends. The Hotel is great for family holidays and the Manager will go out of his way to help if needed. The rooms are great, spacious and bright and ideal for children sharing a room with parents. Entertainment is provided and you are free to join in or not as you wish. We have recommended this Hotel to many of our friends both younger and older over the years and they have also experienced a great time there. We have no hesitation in recommending the Biarritz Hotel to all.

We have had 4 almost consecutive years of family 'holiday-ing' at the Biarritz (missing one year in the middle due to the early arrival of baby No.2!), and all without exception have been truly special and memorable times. The proof lies in the fact that we book for the following year before we leave!
There are already numerous reviews on this website that speak of the wonderful service, location, facilities, rooms, views, food, child-friendliness etc etc. I thought I would write a little about what the hotel is about, and what in our experience makes holiday-ing there so special.
I have to say at the outset, that if you are looking for all the usual trappings of a 3/4 star hotel (as normally understood) with michelin star food, then the Biarritz is probably not for you. There is no bar, no swimming pool, gym, sauna etc. For us, what the hotel arguably 'lacks' in peripheral facilities, is overwhelmingly made up for in exemplary service, warm welcome, friendliness and sense of community that percolates through this very high quality, clean, and extremely well run establishment. We have made some lasting friendships with staff and guests alike over the years we have been going to the Biarritz, and this speaks about the core quality of the place - people.
The location is wonderful, yes; the service is great, yes; the views are spectacular, yes; but for us what is most important is how safe and relaxed we feel with our family in this hotel, surrounded by staff and guests who care for each others well-being. Its great!
We are booked again for summer 2010, and our youngs boys have been asking since Christmas "how many sleeps until we go to the big white house on the hill?"!!! Give it a go yourself. I guarantee that, if you go with the right expectations, you will thoroughly enjoy your stay, and it is highly likely that you'll return. Its a fabulous place, in a fabulous location, filled with fabulous people!

We have had five holidays at the Biarritz, all in the height of the summer. We have never been disappointed. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the rooms are very comfortable, the service is very good and so is the food. The position on the Bay is lovely, and steps down to the beach bring you to a lovely sandy beach, which slopes gently into the sea.
What makes it extra nice is the real family atmosphere, with many activities laid on for children, both in the hotel and on the beach. We like the Christian ethos.
Even though my son is now a teenager there were activities he was happy to join in with, but generally I think that children up to about 12 yrs are catered for entertainment wise.

This my 10th trip to the Biarritz hotel with the family (5 children under 11) . The hotel is a Christian hotel, which is welcoming to anyone. Our holiday time is limited during the year, and both my husband and myself relax almost instantly once we arrive at the Biarritz. As would be expected with a bay side hotel, there are many families who come here during the summer months (often 3 generations of the same family will come together so the age range of guests is very varied) and fewer families outside of the school holidays.

The situation is unrivalled, with a fantastic view over the bay from the terrace and the sea view rooms, and the steps from the back of the hotel go all the way down to a superb sandy beach which the children love to play on. A recent addition in summer months has been a small beach cafe on the beach front, serving ice reams, drinks (hot and cold) and sandwiches, so it is possible to stay on the beach all day without needed to go elsewhere for refreshments.

The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere, the staff are attentive and efficient, and the size of the hotel means that they get to know their guests well by the end of their stay. As a Christian hotel, there is tradition of having a daily devotion (led by a local minister and very easily avoidable if that's not your thing - we're always in breakfast) and a Sunday night songs of praise in the lounge. Again if that's not to your taste it is very easy to avoid.

Over the last 10 years dramatic improvements to the quality of the food (which is now excellent) the comfort of the rooms, and the decor have happened under the leadership of the general manager who has gone beyond the call of duty on many occasions to accommodate requests that we have made. Rooms have all been recently refurbished, and the standards of cleanliness are excellent. The evening meal is served relatively early which means that we can eat together as a family rather than it being too late for our little ones, and Chef is very amenable to requests for later in the week-especially on the dessert front!

Although the hotel is unlicensed, the dining staff were more than happy to chill wine for our meal that gave to them and did not charge corkage. As some of the guests prefer not to drink (the hotel has a Methodist heritage) the wine is always brought in discreetly by the waiting staff. Additionally there are lovely bars a short walk down the bay.....but you don't have to put up with lots of noise from a late opening bar when you do want to go to bed.

For families:- there is a "bag wash" facility, it is supposed to take 48 hours, but I twice put in a bag this year in the morning and found it laundered and returned to my room by the time I got up from the beach in the afternoon.
Each child receives their own place mat, with their name and dates of their stay on - a nice touch.
In summer months a children's buffet operates alongside the main dining menu - children can choose from either the main menu or to have the buffet (which contains all the" favourites" e.g. nuggets (homemade from pure chicken breast) but also things like roast beef, lasagne, or shepherds pie). This worked very well for our children who would often have a starter from the main menu and then choose between the main dining menu and buffet depending on the choices available. Our children have always been made to feel very special at mealtimes and our waitresses made the effort to learn all their names in the first couple of days.
A programme of activities for children and families also runs during summer months. My girls are already planning their design for the sandcastle competition this year! A new delight this year was the free face painting.

A wonderful place for a relaxing holiday!

A great holday that started with the warm, friendly welcome received from all the staff at the hotel.
The room was very comfortable and provided a fantastic view over the beautiful bay.
The local ammenities are adequate and the beach is stunning with the soft sand and large open unspoilt areas,
The food was always excellent and all staff again very friendly efficent and professional in waht they did.
We do recommend them and will continue to do so. So hope to return there soon.

A perfect hotel for a relaxing weekend in Jersey. From arrival to departure, the friendly and helpful staff catered to our every need, especially after i sprained my ankle during a game of beach cricket! I would reccommend the hotel to anyone, especially families with young children.
