It was great to have you back and see all of the changes since last year! Thank you for your lovely review......... Alex
Porthole Suites in St. Aubin is a perfect place to stay when visiting Jersey. I have stayed in a suite for more than 2 months but it is also perfect for a shorter stay. The accommodation has everything you need. There is a nice comfortable bed, good shower, fully equipped kitchen and a garden where you can relax. The owners are very friendly and will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The location outside of St. Helier might be perceived as a negative think but the opposite is the case! Where St. Helier is a more corporate town, St. Aubin is a small and authentic village. There are good bus connections to St. Helier and there is a parking lot where you can park when your own (or a rented car).
Thank you for your comments from a corporate point of view. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay!
I have just stayed in penthouse suites number 9/10 for a week in July and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Porthole suites are newly refurbished to a very high standard with very comfy large sofas! Number 9 and 10 have lovely views out over the harbour, castle and sea beyond. Alex the owner was very friendly and welcoming. Behind the hotel is a tranquil beautiful garden with a lovely view over the sea. The suites are ideally located for getting around the island and were very quiet and clean. There is lots to see and do in Jersey, we especially enjoyed hiring bikes, visiting the lavender farm, exploring the beaches and walking to the lighthouse at low tide. Many thanks to Alex and her husband for making our stay in Jersey so lovely, we would highly recommend these self catering apartments.
Like the idea of self catering,so my daughter booked me a suite here.I wasn't sure what to expect, but these suites are a real gem.The Porthole suites are situated a little back from the harbour ,up the hill and are close to all the local amenities. They have been completed and furnished to a very high standard, interiors are modern and very comfortable. They offer a good selection of appliances should you want to cater for yourself, and plenty of helpful information about the local area should you wish to explore ,which I recommend you do! There are plenty of great cafés and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk from the property,I especially enjoyed dinner at 'Mash',and coffee at the harbour gallery and craft centre, which is well worth a look for more unusual gifts.Alex and her staff made me feel very welcome.Thankyou.
We have just spent 5 days at the Porthole Suites and were very impressed. We booked before they were completed so had no idea what they would be like. We were assured by Alex Wright( the owner) that we would not be disappointed and we were not.
The suites have been furnished to a very high standard with attention to detail. We had a garden suite overlooking the most beautiful gardens which were there for our use. The gardens give stunning views over the harbour below. They are ideally situated to access bus routes, if you have no car, and the choice of restaurants, all within easy walking distance, is second to none..
We could not have made a better choice of accommodation and would definitely return. The suite gave us the flexibility to please ourselves and eat in or out. The cooking facilities are limited but more than adequate with a small 2 ring electric hot plate and a good microwave.
The beds were fantastic, the seating was well thought out and comfortable and the bathroom was large with an excellent shower, we even had a change of towels mid week. There is limited parking if you happen to have a car, but it is restricted to about 6 or 7 places, depending on the size of the cars. It is not allocated parking so be aware that you may have to park down near the harbour, this is free on Sundays and free overnight from 5pm to 8am. They use parking cards in Jersey or parking discs. The book of cards can be purchased on the ferry (10 cards per book). In St Aubins 1 card will cover you for 2 hours parking but in St Helier it is mostly only 1 hour. Many of the small bays around Jersey do have free parking , if you can find a space. St Katherines bay has an excellent fish restaurant down on the harbour, very popular with locals and very cheap compared to restaurants in the town.
All in all this was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed and Alex is such a lovely person who does her utmost to make you feel comfortable and at home. Thank you Alex .
It seems that this is the first review of this new self catering venture , but I am sure that it will soon be joined by others giving high ratings. The "Porthole Suites" offers first class accommodation for the holiday maker and for the corporate visitor alike, being just two minutes walk from St Aubin village which offers the best (in our opinion) selection of restaurants to be found any where on the island. That is if you prefer to eat out rather than use the combination microwave oven or other light cooking facilities available in your large and well furnished suite. We stayed in suite number 7, which has superb views across St Aubin's Bay to St Helier and Elizabeth Castle.
I travelled extensively when I was still working, and have stayed in some hotels which do not offer the same standard of facilities, fittings and decor as the Porthole Suites. (The shower is a big walk in unit with sliding doors. At 6 feet 5 inches tall, it is important to be able to stand upright and feel the water pressure.) Attention to detail is remarkable, even down to the provision of an ironing board which hangs in the cavernous wardrobes.
A truly enjoyable 7 days in June. Wonderful location, first class facilities and Alex, a helpful and attentive host.
We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation, and we shall be returning soon.
