My mother and I recently visited Jersey as we have done several times before. We always visit Samares Manor because it is a beautiful, peaceful location. We visited on our first day of our holiday with the specific intention that we would have a cream tea at lunchtime as we had done previously. We visited the café at approximately 12.00 noon, and found a table outside in the shade (it was a very hot day). Just after we sat down a waitress put a reserved sign on our table (without saying anything to us) and several tables nearby. I asked her whether the table was reserved and she said that it was needed by 12.30pm. We did not want to rush so looked for another table that wasn't reserved. There wasn't one so a couple invited us to share their table. At approximately 12.20pm a waiter put another reserved sign on this table again without saying anything. This time we ignored him. At about 12.30 pm a coach party arrived (the couple we were sharing with had gone and we were on our own). A waiter then asked whether we would move to the next table (which strangely had the same number of chairs as our table). I lost my temper by this time, pointing out that we had spent over £15 to get in then £10 on lunch and we were being treated somewhat shabbily. His attitude was to disregard anything I said and said "yes but can you move". The coach party were lovely and said not to leave. I could not understand why they could not use the next table and we were told to move. The impression the staff gave was that if you were not a coach party who were having a full lunch you were not welcome there. It left a nasty impression of a favourite venue and I can honestly say that we will never return to a place which treats customers so shabbily. The gardens were beautiful but they could do with some more benches as it was a very hot day with few places to sit.
