“Lovely gardens, staff in cafe treat customers badly”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

My mother and I recently visited Jersey as we have done several times before. We always visit Samares Manor because it is a beautiful, peaceful location. We visited on our first day of our holiday with the specific intention that we would have a cream tea at lunchtime as we had done previously. We visited the café at approximately 12.00 noon, and found a table outside in the shade (it was a very hot day). Just after we sat down a waitress put a reserved sign on our table (without saying anything to us) and several tables nearby. I asked her whether the table was reserved and she said that it was needed by 12.30pm. We did not want to rush so looked for another table that wasn't reserved. There wasn't one so a couple invited us to share their table. At approximately 12.20pm a waiter put another reserved sign on this table again without saying anything. This time we ignored him. At about 12.30 pm a coach party arrived (the couple we were sharing with had gone and we were on our own). A waiter then asked whether we would move to the next table (which strangely had the same number of chairs as our table). I lost my temper by this time, pointing out that we had spent over £15 to get in then £10 on lunch and we were being treated somewhat shabbily. His attitude was to disregard anything I said and said "yes but can you move". The coach party were lovely and said not to leave. I could not understand why they could not use the next table and we were told to move. The impression the staff gave was that if you were not a coach party who were having a full lunch you were not welcome there. It left a nasty impression of a favourite venue and I can honestly say that we will never return to a place which treats customers so shabbily. The gardens were beautiful but they could do with some more benches as it was a very hot day with few places to sit.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed the gardens and appreciated their aesthetic value and design. Regarding the café, we take all negative comments very seriously. The café is run as a concession and I have discussed your complaint, in detail, with the proprietor. Naturally, he was upset about the criticism and has assured me that appropriate action will be taken to ensure that this situation will not arise in the future. He is extremely conscientious in his approach to customer service and I have every confidence that significant improvements will be made. I hope that you will visit us again should you return to Jersey.

“We love it at Samares Manor...”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We recently returned from our second visit to Jersey, both times staying in one of Samares Manor's self-catering cottages. Standards are high and we will certainly stay there again on the next visit. The grounds are a delight and the herb garden magnificent at this time of year (late June). We only had the opportunity of eating one breakfast in their restaurant this time, but enjoyed it. Their lunch menu looked attractive and it's just a pity we ran out of time to try it on this trip. We will next time!

Thank you for your very positive review. We pride ourselves on the standard of our self catering accommodation and are always very pleased to receive return visits from our clients. The gardens are truly a little oasis on the fringe of St,. Helier

“Beautiful gardens”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

These beautiful gardens are well laid out and the most of the plants well labelled. As well as the rose & lavender garden and extensive herb garden, there are some lovely mini plant combinations which are coloured themed / style themed (eg 'cottage garden' and 'vibrant'. Good wheelchair accessibility to most parts and excellent café.

Came away with lots of ideas and the memory of a gardener singing to himself as he worked - I knew how he felt.

Yes, the gardens are looking magnificent at this particular time. Both "The Discovery " and the newly formed" Calendar Garden" and "Gardens of Colour" have been very well received. Your comment about the whistling gardener was very amusing,, perhaps we should suggest this as part of the work ethic. Please do visit us again if you are in Jersey as we have many more exciting developments in mind.

“Peaceful gardens”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

These gardens are well worth visiting. There are unusual plants, herbs and helpful ideas for you to try in your own garden. The cafe is very good too.

“Wonderful gardens, don't miss this.”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

We spent approximately four hours at Samares Manor and so glad we didn't miss it. Going in June we were lucky to see such a wonderful display of flowers. As keen gardeners we thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
The food in the cafe was freshly prepared with a good choice of menu, if possibly a little pricey but what you can expect these days.
I am glad we didn't miss visiting Samares Manor and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Thank you for your very positive comments. The gardens at Samarès are at their zenith in June, in particular, "The Herb Garden" and "The Discovery Garden". The location of the café situated in "The Herb Garden", which is a blaze of colour, is always well received as are the delicious home made cakes.
