This was our first guided walk in Jersey. Our guide was Roger Noel. The group was mixed in age with children, parents and older walkers. We set of from the coast in a circular road inland coming back long the coast. Our guide was knowledgeable and presented at the right level for his mixed audience. It was fascinating to have the story of the buildings and things we passed put into historic context: We heard about stories from the German occupation, the Napoleonic defense structures as well as farming and local wildlife and nature. The pace of the walk was well judged and the time flew by - Highly recommended for all the family

Dear C4661ZBpaul

Roger and the Jersey Uncovered team would like to thank you for taking the time to post your review, and we are delighted that you have recommended Roger's 'Towers, Tides and Turnstones' walk. He is a great guide with a wonderful sense of humour and a wealth of island knowledge, and I believe he knows as much about this island's birdlife as is feasibly possible!

This walk, as with all the others that the Jersey Uncovered team lead, aims to appeal to every generation, and to tell Jersey's story, both past and present. The team's tours and walks give visitors to Jersey the opportunity to discover the island, and they also enable locals to rediscover their home.

We hope to see you again soon.

Best wishes

Tracey

Jersey is extremely rich in all kinds of history and the walk: "Neanderthals and a Notorious Beauty" is packed with it. Nigel brings up many fascinating subjects including but not limited to privateers and ship-building, fiefdom, the Jersey Fluke, the Occupation and naval defences, the Jersey Lily, Ice Age geology and the hunting activity of hominids from 250,000 years ago and onwards to homo sapiens. There is a lot to take in and Nigel delivers it with clarity and accuracy. Highly recommended.

I participated in this walk last Sunday and it was definitely a highlight of my time in Jersey, we started in the historic harbour town of St Aubin and walked along quiet country lanes passing woods, working farms and fields of Jersey potatoes to the German coastal battery at Noirmont point. Our guide Nigel Diggle was fantastic, he introduced everyone to each other, gave us lots of historical and interesting facts and by the end of the walk we were like a group of old friends. We stopped for a coffee at the Old Portelet Inn before heading to cliffs where Neanderthal man hunted mammoths and rhinos hundreds of thousands of years ago, we returned to St Aubin in time for lunch. Thanks Nigel for a memorable day.

I am a local but decided to find out more about St Helier's history and so I joined a walk with Jersey Uncovered's guide Tracey. We started overlooking St Aubin's Bay and from there we meandered around the waterfront and harbour through the museum and Societe Jersiaise and on into town to the Royal Square. It was a very relaxed walk and Tracey was extremely informative and had a fantastic manner - she brought life to the stories she told. I learnt so much about the island that I have lived on for 52 years and Tracey clarified for me a lots of facts which I thought I knew. She took us through the centuries from the 18th and through to the second world war. It was a fantastic walk and I would thoroughly recommend it. I am looking forward to joining her for more walks in our beautiful island over the summer.

With our very knowledgeable, and interesting tour guide Nigel Diggle, we discovered the unique and beautiful island of Jersey. His informative and inspired talks motivated our passion in the geography , history and people of this great island. With his wonderful sense of humour and huge amounts of facts , we found ourselves drawn in to experience his love for his home. Until witnessed ourselves we could not have believed the offerings this 45 square mile island has and due to our guides amazing ability to bring the history and land to life for us. From St Brelades Bay to the cliffs and Devil's Hole crater, the Jersey Museum to Liberation Square, winding tree covered roads to views of France across the channel. This picturesque retreat from the hectic and busy big cities when toured with such expertise brings true joy and enjoyment of its wonders.
Lighthouses, towers, walls and castles ! We cannot wait to see so much more with Nigel! Thank you so very much for your gift of Jersey to our lives!

Dear lash708

Thank you for your fabulous comments about Jersey Uncovered’s Nigel. We are delighted that you enjoyed your Jersey adventure with Nigel and it sounds like you fell in love with this great island, which is totally understandable! Nigel has a great depth of knowledge about Jersey, which he delivers with humour and enthusiasm and like the rest of the Jersey Uncovered team, he likes nothing more than ‘uncovering’ our island home for visitors. We hope you return soon and if you do why not try one of the other experiences that Jersey Uncovered offers such as a heritage site discovery tour, a kayaking adventure into the past, or a food and drink tour.

Thanks again and best wishes
