Description: Steve Smith at Bohemia receives rave review from one of the world’s top food critics July 2013Steve Smith and his team at Bohemia are over the moon as the Michelin-starred restaurant has been scored 16/20 by food critic Andy Hayler on his acclaimed food review website andyhayler com Bohemia is one of only 20 restaurants in the UK in the last year to be awarded such a high score beating several 2 Michelin star restaurants like Joel Rubicon and Michael Wignall at the Latymer.Andy Hayler is one of the world’s most respected food critics and the only man to have eaten in all three Michelin star restaurants across the globe in just one year.Interestingly Hayler is also one of only a handful of critics who never accepts a free meal, always covering the cost of his meal, he ensures that his reports are fully subjective.When at Bohemia Andy Hayler opted for Steve Smith’s pescatarian tasting menu, though he swapped one course in order to try some meat as well. His review describes each dish in detail commenting, “Lobster with pea purée was served with pistachios and smoked butter foam. This was a very good dish, the local lobster tender and the pistachios adding a useful texture contrast.” And; “I had chicken with girolles, pea purée, sugar snap peas, mushroom purée and a Madeira sauce. The chicken, unlike so many served on restaurant tables in Britain, had good flavour, the sauce lifted the dish and the pea purée was also good; seasoning was very accurate, as it was throughout this meal.”He summarises the experience by saying, “This was an excellent meal.”Commenting on the review Bohemia Head Chef Steve Smith said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Bohemia has been rated so highly by such an acclaimed food critic as Andy Hayler. It is pleasing to know that our ethos of looking after our guests, offering quality and value for money; and on a technical level focusing on precision, balance and depth of flavour is recognized as the key to an outstanding dining experience.”In recent years Jersey has struggled to gain the attention and recognition afforded to other destinations by leading food critics. The third and final part of our Michelin Experience . Yet another winner, delicious food , lovely wine pairings , all combined with superb service make this a venue to return to .

“Nice atmosphere”

We had a pasta dish each which was very nice. Not sure it should have been virtually cold though? Tasty and reasonably priced, and they had Liberation and Liberation Pale on draught which was nice.

“Not for the 'egg n chip' brigade....”

Amazing. This was our 2nd visit to the Club Hotel and Spa, in St Helier Jersey and our 2nd visit to the Bohemia restaurant. Service was faultless and as for the food? It was fab u lous! They offer 6 meals - all of which are a surprise - so, it's a mix and match from their various menus. Not too over faced and equisitely presented.
Steve Smith, their Head Chef has a well deserved Michelin star to his name already....it won't be long before he receives his second.

“Imaginative food”

Staying at the Club Hotel we could hardly miss out on this place and the food is interesting and stylish. We fancied a change so had the veggie tasting menu which was, on the whole, excellent.

The restaurant its self is a little lacking in style and atmosphere to be honest and when we return to Jersey it would be Ormer and Longueville manor we return to, and not here.

Still, there was a lot to like and the service was very good.

“Great food, poor ambience”

For a michelin starred restaurant you expect to receive first class food and first class service. The food was excellent so if you're visiting purely for just a gastronomic experienence and you dont care about the environment then go for it. Tables are set far too close, we had to ask to move table as we were not enjoying the experience at all and its noisy. We felt we couldn't talk as we couldn't hear ourselves and didn't wish to disturb our very close diners by speaking louder. To give them credit they were extremely accommodating when we asked to move table but we were expecting a much more personal service.
