Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: 29 March to 29 October- Daily - 10am to 5.30pm. Built on a rocky islet in St Aubin's Bay, Elizabeth Castle has watched over Jersey's main seaway for more than 300 years. At low tide you can walk out along the causeway or, if you want to experience a different way to travel, catch the amphibious Castle Ferry at low or high tide. Elizabeth Castle is the perfect place to spend a day exploring Jersey's history. Climb the battlements dating back to the 1590's, when Sir Walter Raleigh was Governor of Jersey from 1600 until 1603. Explore the grounds which gave refuge to King Charles II during the English Civil War and uncover the bunkers which were re-fortified to command the sea approaches to Jersey during the German Occupation in World War II. Marvel at the hermitage where St Helier is thought to have lived around 550 A.D, take part in Living History demonstrations and experience what life was like for the soldiers who were garrisoned here. Find out about our Heritage Pass - four visitor attractions for the price of three on our website or at any of our visitor attractions.

“Must do.”

We spent 3 hours here due to time constraints but could of spent the whole day looking around. We were lucky to have a personnal tour guide by a volunteer but I think these happen quite often.

“You have to see the cannon firing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

The Castle is much bigger than it looks, the Cannon and musket firing are extremely interesting and not something you see every day. Get the boat across and walk back across the harbour.

“Worth visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

View from the top of Elizabeth Castle is breath taking, view of St Helier, St aubin coastal area. Entrance fee is 12 p with ride on the paddle boat. didn't feel the museum in the castle was that impressive but the views around is good.

“Unique setting and very informative.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 October 2013

Be there for the re-enactment and cannon firing. You can take the ferry or walk across the causeway. There are many steps to the top of the castle but the view is worth it.

“Wonderful castle that has it all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

Wow - this castle has it all! It is either accessible by boat (when the tide is in) or by foot (when the tide is out) - and its a great looking castle however you approach it! Love the mad boat/bus you can take to get there - wonderful fun. We were lucky enough to catch the last cannon fire of the season - they have 'Living History' guides there who demonstrate - it was so interesting. The castle has had lots of different stages of habitation, and they have all left a mark - its a great place to roam around and explore. Well worth a visit!
