Good for: Local cuisine
Dining options: Dinner, Reservations
Description: Saffrons cuisine is the healthy balance and combination of Indian spices and local ingredients."The unusual combination of spices used successfully creates an amazing yet healthy dining experience. The result - lighter and healthier dishes, but still with the intense flavours that make Indian cooking so unique. All the taste but none of the cholesterol. The Concept:The Foundation of our cooking is based on sourcing quality local products. By utilizing such products as hand dived scallops, line caught sea bass and local vegetables, we are having products at their peak quality at the right time (seasonality) and reducing food miles which affects the quality of the product as well as the environment. The Technique:The cooking methods are inspired from different regions of India; seafood recipes from Goa to richer dishes from Punjabi in the north. We utilize a clay oven, called Tandoor, to retain the authenticity of such dishes as Naan bread and all Tandoories. Modern European techniques such as slow cooking, low temperature and sous-vide are used to perfect the blend of spices and quality of the product. The Presentation:Dishes are presented simply in a modern European way, letting the food 'do-the-talking' rather than masking the food in heavy garnishing and sauces. The essence is to retain the intensity of flavours but allow for lighter and healthier dishes.

Overhyped restaurant serving a 'fusion' of basically French and Indian cooking. It was the opinion of the four of us who ate there that this 'mix' really does not work, the food was nice but no more. Much of food was served cool and at a restaurant charging these prices that is really not acceptable. On the good side the service and staff were excellent.

This meal was a treat for my birthday but turned out to be good value for money too. Booking an early meal meant we had two meals for £39. The food was beautiful, unusual and a real gourmet experience. Thoroughly recommend for anyone wanting a great night out.

Word of mouth counts for a lot on this Island, so when I asked a friend where to go for any type of meal, Saffrons was a place I had not heard of.
The booking times are quite tight (7pm to 9.30pm), but not a problem. Once there, the service from the initial coat check through the table and out again is second to none.
From what I recall, the restaurant does three menus: a la carte, set and then a tasting menu combining food with wine.
Bear in mind this is not cheap, with main dishes on the a la carte averaging around 25 pounds but you get what you pay for.
At the moment, Saffrons are offering a 2 for 1 set menu (39 pounds) of three courses with plenty of choice (inc. a non-spicy dish). The presentation and quantity of the food is on the minimalsitic side and might not appeal to those who want a mountain of food. For me, the three courses were very sufficient and very, very tasty. The type of food is not a bucket of rice with meat swimming in a sauce, rather a small disc of rice with various meats on a theme, presented in a dry fashion (i.e. proper Indian).
I need to go back for the fillet of beef in spices from the a la carte

Having been to the Hotel De France before we have been tempted to try Saffrons. On our recent visit we again had the temptation which was fulfilled when they put on a two for one offer for a three course meal. All the courses had an indian influence but do not let that put you off. The flavours in each course were subtle and to die for. So much so that the flavours stayed on your palate until you started the next course. My wife and I had never tasted anything like it. I had sea bass and my wife had venison for main course. The service is incredible and the content of each dish is explained before you start it. We retired to the bar after and the manager brought the chefs to our table as they wanted feedback on what we thought of the meal. The normal price of a meal is not cheap but can be accompanied with a chosen wine or beer to go with each course. A truly great experience which we hope to repeat on our return to the hotel.
