“Well located, good quality hotel, but with early check-out time”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

We had a two night weekend stay in an Executive room, looking onto a side street.

I've given the hotel a four star rating, rather than five, only because of a brutally early check out time of 10am. That would be fine if you are there on a business trip, but for a weekend holiday visit, 10am on Sunday morning felt awfully early to have finished packing, had breakfast and checked out. Not much opportunity for a lie-in after a Saturday late night out. We are more used to a leisurely 12 noon check out in other hotels. As it was, the time spent waiting in the queue for a table for breakfast meant we were not finished and ready to check out by 10am.

Once we were given a table, breakfast itself was excellent, with a really good choice of high quality hot and cold food. The staff did a reasonable job of replacing most items which ran out. The view onto Liberation Square from the breakfast room was very pleasant too.

Our Executive room was a decent size, smartly furnished and decorated, well equipped, and with a lovely comfortable bed. The bathroom looked a bit older in design, but had lots of very fluffy soft white towels, and smart 'White Company' toiletries. The air conditioning in the bedroom was very effective.

The cost of the stay was acceptable, given the hotel's prime location, its high standards, good quality room, and the inclusion of breakfast in the room rate.

The hotel has a great idea to encourage you to stay there again if you return to Jersey. Just take away their 'Pomme d'Or' pen, take a photograph of it somewhere on your next travels, 'Like' their facebook page, and post the photo of the pen on their facebook page. You will then get a room upgrade on your next booking!

Arrived late afternoon to be greeted by a welcome reception. Are room was ready when we got there so made are way to the 5th Floor after 10-15mins in the room we noticed it was very noisy as being on the top floor we could only put it down to the AC vents on the roof. After speaking to reception they where more then happy to change are room for an extra cost of £10 a night. The second room was perfect, comfortable and cleaned daily!! Perfect location for hotel as in the centre. We didn't get a car as the bus was a cheaper option and was just located outside the hotel. We only had breakfast at the hotel but we found the breakfast room very busy and the staff looked liked head-less chickens on a few occasions!! Apart from that it was lovely. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. It was a late booking but a great hotel in a very central location. Easy to get to from the airport by bus. Close to the bus station where a bus can take you easily to most parts of the island for just £1.70. Our room was very comfortable, breakfasts were good and hearty, good value for money. Recommend the hotel.

We arrived in Jersey by plane and caught the bus into Liberation Square which is the central bus station and yards from the Pomme'd'Or. We needed some lunch so went into the restaurant which is upstairs ( there is a lift). Lunch was a buffet with an excellent choice for starters, and then a carvery for the main, with a choice fo beef or pork as a main roast. The food was delicious and the service excellent and the price reasonable . We had a table over looking Liberation Square.. The hotel seemed to have a number of business people having lunch and some people who were clearly regulars. If I was going to go back to Jersey I would be happy to stay because as well as convenient for the airport it is also within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

I booked this hotel for three nights, executive room at the back of the hotel very quiet modern and clean well equipped TV, safe, tea and coffee. this hotel is very central just a stones throw away from the bus station, we thought of hiring a car but the buses are so frequent that we saw most of the Island in the three days. We will be gong back to this hotel next year.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter

Off to a good start when we arrived a couple of hours before official check-in time, and our rooms were ready!
Reception staff were efficient and very helpful throughout our three night stay.

The rooms (standard) were in very good condition, well equipped (flat-screen TV, safe, hairdryer, ironing board, tea & coffee making facility) and very clean. Housekeeping was very good. Plenty of towels, and nice toiletries, provided in the bathroom.
Our rooms were on first floor overlooking the street – As some other reviewers have mentioned, there was a bit of noise from a bar opposite in the evenings, but not really sufficient to disturb us.
The only problem we had was that the shower control in one of the rooms was very stiff to turn on & off. However, the reception & housekeeping staff were efficient in getting the problem sorted out over the weekend.

Breakfasts (served in the Harbour Room restaurant on the first floor) were excellent. Tea/coffee and toast was brought to the table promptly. The selection of fruit was particularly good, and also the hot buffet.
We ate in the Harbour Room (carvery menu) on one night of our stay, and again found it excellent (food and service).

The hotel has a lot of historical interest (it is shown in some pictures in the Jersey ‘War Tunnels’) and is superbly well situated for the seafront, town centre shops and the bus station. If returning to Jersey, I would want to stay here again.

Not much that I can add that has not been said by others. The noise in the morning from the road-sweeping lorries is probably the biggest negative, not the hotel's fault admittedly. It was better with the toilet door closed, as the toilet windows do not appear to be double-glazed. Liberation square was a bit noisy on Saturday night due to high spirited youngsters, but not excessively so.
Food was good, with all meals being on a buffet basis, we intended eating out in the evenings, but as the food in the hotel was so good, we ate in every night.
The UK could learn a lot from Jersey, the people are polite and courteous, as are drivers, more like the UK in the 1950's.
Entertainment-wise there is not a great deal happening in Jersey generally, Elizabeth Castle is great and there is no point visiting other castles/museums after seeing this one. The WW2 tunnels are well worth a visit also. Otherwise the main attraction of Jersey is the tranquillity and laid-back atmosphere.
We intended hiring a car whilst over there for a week, but found that the bus service is so good (the terminus is only two minutes walk from the hotel) that we travelled everywhere by bus. Don't bother with a taxi from the airport to the hotel, just hop on the bus that stands at the front of the airport. £1.70 to anywhere on the Island.
It has been said by others that Jersey is expensive, it is if you use the shops in the tourist areas, use the shops that locals use, we did and found it cheaper than the UK. As an example, we bought a litre of vodka for £21 in the Co-op, but in a supermarket off of the tourist route, it was £14.70 for a litre.
Buy your duty-free at the airport on the way home, we bought a litre of Bacardi Oakheart and a litre of 50% Sirnoff for £20 the two. Jersey is not in the EU, therefore it's duty-free prices.
Couldn't fault the hotel considering the quantity of visitors using it, make sure that you have the Saturday night seafood buffet, all of the sea food that you can eat for £26!
The only real gripe that we had is that there is no swimming pool, guests have the use of the swimming pool at The Merton Hotel, but it's a long walk.

Room Tip: The choice seems to be at the front or side, with harbour views and early morning traffic noise, or...
